For this woodworking project, Jesse AKA “The Samurai Carpenter,” challenged me to make his through tenon step stool... as many of you know, this is not a typical joinery project for me, so it actually was a challenge to build. The wood that I used for this step stool was rough-cut hard maple, and spalting that I got from a sawmill. It was a very stringy wood, that didn’t cut or chisel very easily, and you’ll notice that I try to cut the joinery for this project a few different ways. It turns out that the drilled hole was the way to go! I didn’t follow the plans exactly, as I prefer a more primitive look. I hope that you enjoy this joinery challenge from The Samurai Carpenter.

Jimmy’s shop is so much like my dad’s shop growing up. You used a lot of metal tools when doing woodwork. Oh and he loved his 40s model Delta bandsaws. I love Jimmy’s take on the stool. It is very Diresta 👍

I love the different takes on each others projects. There is a big difference between Diresta and Samarai style... diresta has the "get things done" mentality, Samarai has the "let it happen naturally" mentality. I love it!

Nice job Jimmy. I like how you kept the milling saw marks so you can see how it was originally cut. I got some old window headers (2x12 lumber) from a job and I’ve been saving it to make a bench with the same joinery. This video came at a great time. Thanks DiResta and Samurai

What a great build. I do like how you and the Samurai did different pressure fit pins on the center brace. My dads am old school wood worker and I’m trying to get him hip to KZbin. Amd when I show him your vids amd other wood working videos he’s just blowin away on how far things have developed and all the new school technology. And I appreciate how much you cover both ends of the spectrum on all your build. Much love Jimmy!!🤜🏻⚡️🤛🏻

"pro"tip: if you have two pieces where you have to cut a half circle, like the legs here, you can put them one against the other and use a hole saw to cut the hole fast and clean. I usually staple them to an MDF piece i have for that kind of stuff.
