I really liked that you showed the finished product at the beginning :) I wish more videos would do it. It lets the viewer know if they're actually interested in seeing how it's built and since this stool is gorgeous, it's a great hook to make us watch the whole thing anyway.

Thank you so much! I agree- people should know what they’re getting into before committing to a long video. I also like to show finished product at the beginning because that makes it much easier to mentally follow along during individual steps. Thank you so much for watching!

Built this great project with quarter sawn white oak, engraved my new grand-daughter's name on the top with the Rockler letter templates and the router. You made it clear that the dado cuts for the legs are critical, and I took a bit too much of a bite, but not enough that gluing and clamping didn't work well. Looks great! Very excited to ship it across the country for her first birthday. The simplicity of this is the key, super strong but a great method of joinery.

You can use a metal hammer and compress the fibers slightly on the leg that’s going into the dado. It will swell back up with glue and be incredibly tight.

I like the nickname "convincer" for the mallet :D How can you do that 15° cut without access to a tablesaw?
@WoodcraftBySuman3 жыл бұрын
Haha. The convincer def has helped in many conversations with joinery. If you don’t have a table saw, you can use a router to make a normal dado and then finish off the edges of the dado with a jig that helps support and tilt the router to 15ish degrees. Conversely, you can make a reg dado with the router then a 15d piece of wood as a guide for the chisel and chisel away. You can also use a circular saw with a tilted angle blade. And finally, you can use a hand saw and tilt the blade to 15d but that’s pretty hard to do.

Beautiful piece. I wonder if you should not have taken just a hair more off the dados, as the joints were super tight. Could the joints possibly have issues later, like with expansion and contraction? Thorough instructions, thanks.

In retrospect, I probably would have widened the dado a little bit. But I believe I found out it was too tight after glue already got involved. Haha

Flat teeth on the blade only leave a flat bottom if you're cutting at 90°. When you cut on an angle the teeth are angled and will therefore have an upper point.
