Personally as a kid, I found Mr. Rogers a little creepy. But hearing about his philosophy as an adult makes me appreciate what he was trying to do. Maybe I did not like him because I'm one of those kids that preferred Road Runner at the time. Lol!

I like to think that one of the reasons why Mr. Rogers spoke slowly was to allow his words to sink in. And also to allow none native English speakers to understand him easier. When I attended Uni a few years back, I was recommended by 2 professors to be a tutor for their classes. What I realized from that experience is that foreign students who came from none English speaking countries who may have learned it at school but didn't speak it on a daily basis had difficulties following lectures or conversations when the speaker talked too fast. And not only that, it seems that slowing your speech a tad also makes it easier for your words to sink in for both native and non-native English speakers. I used to have to go over a topic 3-4 times before my fellow students understood it, but when I spoke a bit more slowly, they were able to absorb my explanation more easily.

He seems jaded in the trailers too and the way he's looking at the reporter is not that loving and patient look that Mr. Rogers really looks at people w/. He's always looking at him sideways, like he's judging and finding him lacking. I don't see that he captured him at all.

It's not just Pittsburgh though. Joan Rivers interviewed him on the tonight show and she was the same way. He's so loving and kind, he just disarms people. People rightly don't expect him to be as kind in person, no matter how many people come up and bug him to talk and fawn over him.

I hope you do and after you've seen it, I also hope that you'll be inspired to watch some episodes of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood (if you haven't already). Though the series started way before my time, watching Mr. Rogers was an important part of my childhood and what I learned from that show and from Mr. Rogers has helped to shape the person I am today.

I recently found out my mom had friends on the Mr. Rogers show and she actually had met Mr. Rogers a few times. One of the times she was riding a victorian bike (giant front wheel super tiny back wheel) She lived in Pittsburg and Rogers saw her and they had a conversation about the bike and he was a really nice man.

Just saw the movie last night and it was so beautiful. Tom Hanks did an incredible job. There was one scene where Fred and Lloyd are in the restaurant when everyone just stopped and Tom Hanks/Fred Rogers stares, not at Lloyd or others around but straight into the camera as though he is looking straight at you, the viewer. I had already stopped what I was doing, which was eating dinner and just watched and when that moment came and passed I felt the air come back into my lungs as though I was holding it. It was one of the most dynamic moments in movies I have ever seen. Just simply having Tom Hanks look straight into the camera all I can think is he is brilliant in this role and did such a great job of bringing Mister Rogers back to life for a little bit.

I don't know what eyes & ears you view & listen perspective you have. Totally squwed & incorrect. He is perfect as God made him ! You calling God's work imperfect. I see he is few of the greats on Hollywood. Or if you just quoting paraphrasing, then to Jimmy. He can be an idiot for sure.
