I had the pleasure of having conversations with Capt John Riley - part of the great escape, and the first pilot to land a jet on an aircraft carrier. He fought for the RCAF, the RAF and then the USAF. Steve McQueen gave Capt. Riley a Porsche as thank you for sharing his story. Some of his stories you can't even share on KZbin. Capt Riley would rub this scar on his hand, where an SS officer pulled the trigger on him for leaning on a metal fence while having a cigarette with one of the guards, whom he claimed were mostly just guys doing what they were told, but the SS were, well, you can guess. EDIT: I recall Capt Riley telling my father that he watched that movie when it came out, since he's mentioned in the credits, and he got mad at the scene where the pilot lands the jet on the deck of the carrier, saying out loud to his wife, "I never broke my ankle! That's bulls---, it was hard, but I didn't wreck it!". Incredible story. Dude was in his 20's. He would sit in his shed after mowing his huge yard (in his 90s) and just stare for hours. Some booze to dull whatever he had in that head of his. A hero. Watching the end of this video, the questions they were asking people on the street, how is it that we know the questions were ridiculous, and it's not even our country? I know most of our culture is American and our country is far younger - but jeeziss cripes in a taxicab, what the everloving F has happened to the USA? Are we gonna find their history teachers all incarcerated in some gulag in West Virginia or something? How does a nation that's accomplished so much, with so many brilliant minds, reach such an impossibly stupid status quo?

Yes, whenever I travel, I often meet people from other countries (all continents) who have a million questions about the USA. I'm tuned into our gov't, culture and my native history. Based on their questions, I'm always impressed with their knowledge versus my compatriots knowledge. Americans seem to base their opinions on feelings, not facts. Many have never read the Constitution in the adult lives. It's criminal how little Americans know or appreciate about their own country. We need to completely overhaul our history books and our standards on American History, Euro-history and understand world history. Otherwise, how can we have the information to make decisions? This is a great lesson for our kids. This truly is a man's world. A man can break all the rules and get away with anything, while women can work twice as hard and do everything right and still not get ahead in this world. This is pure logic. Women are a majority (51%) but we have never had a woman president. The 2 times we had extremely qualified and experienced women candidates, they both lost to a completely inexperienced tv reality show host male. A man who easily lost the only time he ran against anothrr man who was less qualified than the 2 women mentioned. Occams razor: the simplest explanation is usually the right one.
