I can't explain the warm fuzzy feeling I get when I saw Holly's reaction to that hug from Michael, especially after they both dealt with Jan's insanity for the day. I'm so glad Michael immediately went to go make things right with Holly as soon as Jan's crazy ass left. He owed Jan nothing and Holly didn't deserve to be treated like that.

the office is pretty much physically organized by the "level" of the character: angela, oscar, and kevin are used as quirky and capable. creed and meredith deliver a similar one liner kind of comedy. pam and jim are central, 3 dimensional story lines. Michael is the central character - a first among equals. kelly and ryan are peripheral, young, and sort of one foot out the door, mentally. so is toby, trying to find his life. everyone sits in a cluster that kind of defines their contribution to the story and the funny. phylis and stanley are older, near retirement, and a bit of a different generation, in terms of how they act.

Dwight is the Assistant to The Office, a solid side-kick character that becomes central and whose arc ends with the end of the series.

I looove the scene where corporate okays the illicit sex-for-paper-and-steaks deal haha. The way the guy "I don't see the problem"s the whole thing. The realization and turnabout that unreasonable, gross Michael, is being backed up by cold, rational bosses. The somewhat stunned look on Holly's face. It's a fun way to pivot that story. You didn't include the main lines there, but glad you brought it up later - all about the $$$! I love Holly, but perhaps a splash of cold water about who she works for is not a bad thing for her :P

Haha! I prefer Kevin to Meredith too, to me he is more surprising. Hey I know you feel differently, no worries. Not my first time to watch it, so I don't know if that changes it or not. I'm not a normal viewer though. I can continue watching episodes ad infinitum. Respect to the channel you have built. Keep doing comedies. Cheers to you.

I can't remember if I was one of the two criminals Jimmy identified haha, I could've probably gone either way on Meredith v Kevin depending on my mood. Definitely funny we had that debate just a few episodes before this, which is one of the few distinctly Meredith episodes. I feel like she gets a few Big Episodes because she has a few Big Problems - her accident, her alcoholism, her at-times-reckless promiscuity - whereas Kevin is more low key about things, and has more moments where you just go "yeah that's Kevin". Jimmy clearly doesn't like Kevin being Kevin as much as I do :)

Its so interesting, my first time watching the office I watched it as if Jim and Pam were the main leads and their story was the most significant so loved each interaction but watching it through on my second time etc I didnt care for it as much as the office antics (Michael is head and shoulders above everyone else and then Dwight as a clear no. 2).

In the episode about time theft 😄😄 By the way y'all, the time theft bit is total corporate propaganda just FYI. Corps are well documented routinely depriving workers of legally entitled benefits, nudging people to do extra uncompensated tasks, and overall exploiting people with lesser economic power, far beyond "losses" from day to day ebb and flow of a workday which is universal. "Time theft" obsession is what leads to Amazon warehouse workers being told they need to shave a minute off their bathroom time. Self-defeatingly it also causes burnout and higher turnover. "Time theft" is a corporation's way of saying "we really wish you were all robots over which we had 24/7 ownership", to which the only response necessary is "yeah yeah, we already know."

Jim and Pam are the foundation of the whole series. They represent real couples with real issues. The hatred against them usually comes from the younger demographic who think the show is centered around Michael, and stopped watching after a certain point. Watching the series in its entirety (sometimes several times), you realize the characters had to evolve and mature somewhat after nine years.

Agreed. They take up too much space in his head rent-free. I love them as a couple and find Jim's devotion to Pam endearing. If they were goofy and dysfunctional -like the other couples on the show - Jimmy would love them. It's okay to have some poignancy sprinkled in with the slapstick.

I could gush all day about how genius Holly's character is as a Michael love interest. First try was Jan, which was cool and shocking at first, but then they realized the only way the Jan they established could really put up with Michael is if SHE IS INSANE. So they made her insane. Which, had some good moments, but overall a more unbelievable and forced character. So then they said "let's try coming up with someone who might GENUINELY like Michael" and they NAILED IT. Then Amy Ryan gives it flawless, lovely execution. Brilliant. Also fun watching these double features - forgot their big fight was the ep before their big hug.

I don't know who Jimmy is talking to, feeling defensive about Jim and Pam at this point haha. Are some of his Patreons die hard supporters or something? At the time it aired, I can't remember anyone who was really into them much anymore by season 5, and a lot of people were declaring them over in even the first few eps of season 4. I felt like me saying I liked ANYTHING between them in season 4 would get me jumped on some forums :)

Jim and Pam are great characters individually, they are just not great as a couple and they never will be, for me, at least. Holly and Michael are the kind of story you wish to have in your own life, they are great as individuals and even greater as a couple. Anyone would be lucky to have a Holly in their life

In some ways, I feel like maybe the Jim and Pam relationship is too real. It's so aggressively slice of life, their conversations are not really entertaining, it's just exactly the nonsense chatter you'd expect to overhear from a good couple. Their relationship isn't comical like Ryan and Kelly, and it also isn't fantasized. The chatter worked before they were dating, because there was the Roy factor, but once they really started dating there was no interesting dynamic. It strikes this weird place of being good and bad at the same time, because it's a great depiction of a couple, but not great television. Relationships can be comical without being bad relationships, Parks and Recreation has multiple wholesome couples that have very funny interactions.

I think nobody will fault you for being annoyed with the Pam and Jim forced storyline this season. Whether you like them ir dislike them, definitely felt very artificial. Just cooked up by some writers to create some conflict. I love Pam and Jim but yeah they drag this out a bit this season. Same for Angela cheating on Andy stuff. Goes on for too long.

Don’t worry Jimmy, I feel like Jim and Pam’s drama will soon be over. I still remember another hr rep saying in future episodes something along the lines of: “just look at Jim and Pam you guys.
