Tommy The Hit man Hearns is my all time favorite fighter. He was a bad ass. He had fights from 130 pounds all the way up to Cruiserweight. If he was just a bit smarter as a fighter he'd have been indestructible. He was almost 6 feet 2 inches tall too. Great with both hands. R.I.P Emanuel Stewart and KRONK GYM, great trainer and human being AND Kronk was Detroit legendary gym.

Did somebody say he was a joke. I say Benitez was no woman. I say boxing is no football game. I say you were not a robot. You always say something is not as opposed to what it is. Anybody that witness his fights knows that he always meant business in the ring. His championship fights 15 rounds. He fought the best when he was the best. Are you know no joke as well. There actually was a fighter nicknamed no joke. He was a laughingstock it was embarrassing he wanted people to call him no joke.
@TTony-tu6dm4 жыл бұрын
Wilfredo was a hell of a fighter. I remember when he won the championship from Palomino, about halfway through the bout Wilfredo started showboating and taunting Palomino. At the time Wilfredos father was one of his cornermen. When Benitez returned to the corner, his father stepped into the ring and slapped Wilfredo in the face and said “that man is the champion. Don’t you ever disrespect the champion”. Wilfredo went on to win the fight.

@@watchdogsthebeast3540 all these guys were amazing in my eyes. Sure, someone had to take a loss, but that’s part of boxing and it may very well be due to the saying that styles make fights. Duran beat leonard, but got knocked out by hearn and yet he still gave a hell of a fight to Hagler. And we gotta remember that he was the smallest of the four kings. He started at lightweight so it is really incredible what he did in his career, fighting bigger guys. At the same time, I can’t tak bad about none of the other greats. Hagler had a spectacular career, and so did Hearns and Leonard. I am just glad to be able to watch these fights. At the end of the day, that’s what fans want. They want to watch real warriors fighting each other and us real fans respect the warriors that dare to challenge other great fighters to entertain us, it doesn’t matter if they lose.

@@blankuser5943 Pertaining to the 1979 Leonard-Benitez fight,That stoppage was unnecessary/controversial. Benitez was okay to go the rest of the way. I think the promoters were behind that premature stoppage. They wanted to Really Hype up a Leonard-Duran showdown for 1980. Letting it go the distance would've made a Leonard-Benitez rematch a fan clamoring necessity/mandatory, wheras,the promoters Really just wanted the winner of Leonard-Benitez to face Duran ASAP.

Jing Qi. That "iron chin" which he relied on to go the distance in numerous fights is likely what has led to his present affliction with dementia pugilistica. Everyone talks about the four horsemen being Hearns, Hagler, Sugary Ray, and the hands of stone. However, Benitez went 15 ROUNDS with the hitman, and took some of his strongest blows. Benitez deserves to be in the conversation, as he was an excellent fighter, and had one hell of a heart. Greatest decade for boxing, and I didn't even grow up in it. Legendary.

This was the last great performance by Benitez. While he clearly lost the fight, he kept it close against a prime Hearns. His career went downhill after this fight. I don’t think he ever clearly lived up to his potential and could have done much more if his dedication had been 100%.

Hearns was awesome when we all amatur boxers on the westside of Detroit at the then Kronk recreation center off Livernois Ave. He was called the Hit Man Hearns, if he caught you right it was lights out, he was long and for him to be 6"0 posed a problem for other fights regardless who it was, you know you was in a fight with him. @saihemebillings28207 жыл бұрын
Trump grabbed my pussy no he wouldn't have at 140 he would have gotten some just like Floyd did Corrales another big, long arm guy with power. Just from looking at this fight again, after the third round, Floyd would have found a home all day for his straight right. Hearns never brought his hands back up for defense which is what Leonard took advantage late in their first fight and Floyd is with his high ring iq would have figured that early on. Besides the shoulder roll defense would have given Hearns trouble all day, late ko Floyd.

I've never seen a boxer more comfortable (and willing) enough to box w/ his back against the ropes than Wilfredo Benitez. Dude was an absolute champ. He beat Antonio Cervantes for the lineal and WBA Light Welterweight belt, beat Carlos Palomino to win the lineal and WBC Welterweight title, beat Duran, and fought Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns. All of those fighters (except Duran) were at their relative primes too. Last but not least, he became the youngest world champion in the history of boxing at the tender age of 17. Benitez could've also been one of the greatest "what-could've-been" boxers bc he began to lose interest in boxing even before he fought Leonard. Had he had the focus and the work ethic, no doubt would he be considered among the best of all time.
