Dear Mr. Raymond, good afternoon! What a cool comparison. In Brazil the names are different for the JB74. The GA = 4You (2 versions: manual transmission and automatic transmission). Then come 3 other versions, all with automatic transmission only. I have a question, with no link to the KZbin in question: I have a Jimny JB74 with manual transmission (4You MT, equivalent to Australia's GA) and I've only driven 2,500 km... it's still brand new... but the reverse gear is always makes noise and inaccuracy when engaging... is this normal? I've already tried raising the rpm before engaging... pressing the clutch to shift into 1st gear before shifting into reverse... nothing changes the unpleasant engagement of reverse gear. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your education and patience. Best regards from Brazil.

I would like to look beyond the list price of the Jimny and reckon in the price of essential upgrades and then the price of nice to have upgrades. Out of the bat, a stock GLX with a set of upgraded tyres will be a lot closer to 400,000. The real question is what is the absolute ceiling after which the total cost of the Jimny plus upgrades is no longer worth the price and speaking for myself I will pick somewhere between 400,000 and 500,000 as an arbitrary limit that I won't exceed since beyond that point I would rather buy more Fujifilm lenses than to spend a further cent on the Jimny. To me, that amount will then be the absolute ceiling for a Jimny plus upgrades regardless of the model. Assuming I purchase a GA, upgrading the stock Dunlop tyres, a lift/suspension kit, radial cup protectors, dual front and rear recovery points, a tow bar, a differential breather kit and throttle controller would constitute what I would term essential upgrades for driving on lots of bad dirt roads and very casual off-roading. That will put the price of an upgraded GA very close or well beyond the cost of a stock GLX and adding a snorkel, a roofrack plus bicycle mounts and a ladder, a few internal knick-knacks such as cup holders, better internal LED lights, arm rests, guards over the rear window defogger cables, reasonable (but not the best) seat covers and rubber mats plus a cheap bluetooth compatible radio will elevate that GA by quite a bit over 400,000. Now add a compressor, recovery tracks, a tyre repair kit, an indeflate kit and some shackles and tow straps etc and what you have spent on that Jimny escalates rapidly, yet so far all these upgrades are considered the bare essentials for overlanding. From this point it does not take much to potentially reach the half a million rands limit on even a stock GA if a decent dome tent, an awning, systems for storing fuel and water, a 40 litre entry-model fridge, a portalble lithium battery inverter system plus solar panel and basic essentials for camping are added. Now do the same calculation on the GL and GLX models and you might see why I might steer towards the GA that has the same off-capability but not the creature comforts. I rather like the the steel rims that does differentiate the Jimny, I am perfectly happy to weave paracord around the steering wheel to avoid the sweaty hands and installing a Chinese Polarlander radio with built-in speakers and bluetooth/mp3 connectivity right inside a single DIN unit makes perfect sense since I typically listen to audio books when on the road and two speakers an arms length away does the job.. It helps that I have multiple sets of paper maps and guide books covering all of Southern Africa including a Garmin Overlander plus Tracks4Africa which negates the need for a vehicle integrated navigation unit. I would add that my use case for the Jimny is for a pot-hole resistant general run-around, a capable 4x4 vehicle that can get me into those very nasty places where I wish to do bird-watching, some overlanding but not the Central Kalahari plus lots and lots of driving around on farms and lastly a weekender for occasional camping/fishing that can carry a mountain bike on a mount on the roofrack. Some towing of a light trailer carrying a moderate load of agricultural supplies or gas bottles may occasionally be required. Any thoughts on this and is there any essential I may have missed? I might add front and rear diff-lock + transmission case protectors but as you well know, weight (the steel rims makes a GA heavier than other models) and total cost adds rapidly unless a line is drawn somewhere.

I would say , main essentials for a run around is radial cups , rock sliders , and put on decent tyres when the Dunlops are done. A stock Jimny can go alot of places where other modified 4x4s cant. Add the accesories as you realize that you need it , for your usecase.

I love Buddy, (my GLX) & given what you get in addition to the GL it is a great package deal that is far less expensive than adding the options as aftermarket. Is the new 10" system as limited in functionality as the 7"?

Hi Kelvin , everybody is shopping around for the best specials around , got my GLX at a great price and would not trade it for a 2022 model EVER. The 10inch has the same functionality as the 7inch , just loads of issues connecting your mobile to it.

Can anyone tell me the inside length of the storage box in the rear of the Jimny? I have a Jimny on order but can’t find this dimension anywhere. The reason I need it is I am buying a 7ft fishing rod that will either be a one piece or two piece, I will get two piece if it will fit in the compartment but may get one piece if it will fit inside the interior without bending. Thanks.

Lots of people that are well over six feet in length manage to sleep inside a Jimny by letting the rear seats plus the front passenger seat down. If you are willing to have a fishing rod in the middle of the Jimny from the rear door to the front dashboard, a seven foot fishing rod will therefore fit without bending. In that case, you may want to investigate the "Gen 4 In Cabin Cargo Rack" that JimnyWild sells so that the fishing rod can be suspended below the ceiling in order not to interfere with the the gear controls. Failing that you are looking at a roofrack and a fishing-rod holder which can be pricey. Front Runner has such a unit for their rack and in a recent video, the chap from Des Sol let something slip about an upcoming fishing rod holder for their brand roof-rack. This video might assist you regarding the storage box - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6XLZ2Z8ir-LmLs

What about your service plan difference between the GL and the GLX ( the GLX one is 4 years or 60 000km) whereas the GA is only 2 years and 30 000km
@justjimny

Also saw that , but Suzukis are more reliable than Toyotas , and you basically have less electronics in the GA that can go wrong , so I dont see it as a major concern. And you can start doing mods that effect warranty earlier , like exhaust upgrades.
@CasperLabuschagne
@CasperLabuschagne Жыл бұрын
@@justjimny That appeals to me as well since out-of-warranty upgrades will become a big thing where Jimnys are concerned especially where the computer is reprogrammed resulting in an additional 10 to 12 horspower from the engine plus immediate responsiveness.
