Palafin lead into eject button hatterene is my personal favourite team style in AG/Ubers right now. If the opponent sets hazards I bounce them back with magic bounce and if they attack hatterene's eject button triggers and Palafin's jumping back in like a yo-yo.

Palafin is what Regigigas could have been if Slow Start only took one turn, lasted for the rest of the game and had Extreme Speed. Only that you don't have to learn an entire alphabet, travel around the region, catch three other pokemons and solve an ice maze to get.

This thing is basically azumarill on crack. Really high attack. Set up move in bulk up. And a stronger water priority move in jet punch. Also, I would like to argue that dracovish is the better water type as it doesn't need to switch to be broken. Also, palafin is currently ranked B+ in the SV ranking list, and dracovish is ranked B on the SS Crown tundra tier list. However, palafin's ranking will likely drop as this is before the home expansion and the dlc, unlike dracovish, who will stay in B rank as sword and shield are already finished.

It wouldn't be a perfect nerf or anything, but I think it would be reasonable to nerf the ability in the future to where he changes form anytime he switches out, not just the first time. That way, you at least have better counterplay in singles where you can force it out with Dragon Tail or Roar, or just scare it out with a good switch in, and then when it comes in again it's back to its weaker form. This would probably force it into an end game sweeper role, which it does just fine as one, but it would significantly hinder the hit-and-run choice band/scarf gameplay

I think that that they definitely overtuned this guy, even just a bit of a reduction to its attack or removal of extraneous coverage options like cc or strong stabs like Wave Crash would make it more manageable. Probably still too much for OU, but a bit more limited and interesting in the short time it was there. Even in doubles it can be incredibly nasty if you set up an endgame with Chien-Pao boosting its jet punches and wave crashes. That said, I have a soft spot for the guy, as banded Palafin was on my day 0-day 1 balance consisting of Palafin, Garganacl, Flutter Mane, Clodsire, Corviknight, and Scizor that made it to top 10 on ladder and finished runner-up in multiple roomtours. I also just love its ability flavor-wise. It sees that a fight is happening in its normal form, leaves for a bit, then comes back ridiculously strong and resembling a traditional superhero. The ability designed to hinder it is based on Clark Kent needing to find a phone booth to change into his Superman outfit. And that’s incredibly fun.

Favorite new gen 9 pokemon is probably Ceruledge. Flash Fire, Tera Grass/Blast, and Swords Dance make this thing so much fun to sweep within OU. Palafins attack stat is actually so high that it has more attack than Azumaril with huge power. In addition you have a buffed version of aqua jet, and a base 100 speed stat. While I love a bunch of individual new pokémon both for styles and niches, I’m honestly quite scared about the powercreep. It’s increasing exponentially in the last few gens, and with lower than ever time between new gens, it’s gonna get out of hand real soon. I don’t want either old pokémon to be unusable to the point of needing buffs and reworks, neither do I want “meh” new pokémon. I don’t envy whoever has to come up with a way to make new pokémon unique and viable without making them straight up a better version of what was before though, and can’t say I’m optimistic about that even being a worry for gamefreak at all…
