Pretty cringe that people cheated so they didn't have to do a suspect test. However, this reversal is a step back for gen 9 OU, and now no close suspect votes will be trusted. I don't think SV OU is a very balanced metagame, but there's no single thing that I think will be suspected and banned at this point. Some may say Zamazenta, but that would have even less support than Kyurem.

Where there was a collaboration of players who intentionally started playing that Pokemon, wanting to raise its usage until it was RU? The smogon system is flawed, and some people are using it to mess around. Also, since that scandal was uncovered (somehow), that raises another question. How many Pokemon were banned only because one guy hated to play against it, so he made several accounts just to get as many votes as he could? Or reverse- how many Pokemon weren't banned only because one guy loved to play certain Pokemon that some people thought was too good for this tier, so he made several accounts just to get as many votes as he could? The smogon system is flawed. But other than getting the better, more secure way of checking for multiaccounts, I don't see how it could be resolved. By the way, that person obviously has way too much free time.

They weren’t planning to stop at RU, they were going to keep moving through the tiers until they reached OU. But the emergency tier rise freeze stopped it. It was a band aid that fixed the immediate problem in the short term. But as far as I’m aware… there’s still nothing in place to stop that from happening again. How can we be sure that Smogon's voting system isn't flawed to begin with? Only high ranking players are allowed to vote: players who are the best at using the suspected Pkmn in question, the ones who are most likely to be enjoying the op Pkmn being meta. They are quite literally shaping the game around hyper offense and nothing can be done because those same players use the broken stuff to secure a high rank and make sure it stays that way. If you don't like the meta that was decided by them, who also prevent the bans because they place excuses (nahh, Tera is a fun mechanic guys, we can't ban the generational mechanic), you are at a disadvantage. If you want changes to happen, you are forced to play a game you don't like, just to get a chance to voice your opinion through a vote that can still go nowhere because people keep unbanning things.

I think this is way more serious than just a guy holding a grudge against one pokemon and then wanting to ban it. This was an effort by a group of players to have more influence over pokemon bans, which would have happened if they didn't get caught and would have been apocalyptic for Smogon's legitimacy. Just imagine the reactions if this had gotten worse and a year from now we discover that a group of 10 players controlled like 50 ban votes during that period of time.

@@zoeygeorge2403 A bunch of people decided collectively that they wanted to break/prove that the Smogon tiering system was flawed, so they decided to spam the crud outta 1 Mon to get it to move up the tiers until it reached OU. The mon they chose was, as you might have guessed, Hitmontop. While Smogon attempted to patch the problem by making tier rises require 3 months of consistent threshold usage, it only slowed down the problem. There was so many people dedicated to the cause that Hitmontop kept rising through the tiers every 3 months, despite not being viable in these upper tiers. In the final stretch of gen 8, Smogon saw that they couldn’t stop it and put an emergency freeze on tier rises for the remainder of the generation. Things were allowed to drop, but nothing was allowed to move up tiers. This upset a ton of players and raised issues over what Smogon can decide on within their tiers. Can tier councils deny a Mon from rising if they deem it “unviable” despite it reaching usage threshold? Does this strip the community of choice/will? And more importantly: how can we stop this from happening? People selectively taking Mons out of tiers that they would see actual play and be healthy additions to, into tiers where they are only used meme then left to rot on the tier list till the end of time isn’t good. As far as I’m aware, Smogon still hasn’t come up with a true solution this problem yet. They just nipped the “project” in the bud and hoped nobody will try it again. Which so far, thankfully hasn’t happened yet. But Tbqh, it’s only a matter of time…

i'll be really honest: Kyurem Suspect test was ridicuously quick. ( i mean, if i remember correctly at the time kyurem got suspected they have suspect tested Gourging fire, and was like 1 week of difference ? )

To be honest. 2v2's also need the competitive usage categories as well. There's so many more Pokemon that are trash in 2v2 than there are in 1v1's. (It got a bit calmer when they decided to ban legendaries but I'm perfectly sure that that's only temporary.)

I've been playing for over four years now and I've genuinely always found it strange that you don't need to register suspect alts on smogon too, this gets done for ladder tours do prevent any shenanigans of trying all over or taking multiple spots why not here? Retrying for suspects has always been alright, but otherwise the same offenses are punishable for both. And honestly, retrying is not a feature it's a bug of rating voltality as you might run into gxe issues regardless of your strength if you play too many suspect testers and/or get unlucky a few too many times, it happens. But I thought the point of suspects was to show over a sufficiently large number of games that you're consistently strong and can force your way up the rating ladder. Having the ability to make new accounts until you get your rating in sufficiently few games just means the standards lower themselves, it's easier to luck through thirty games after your tenth try than having a 24-10 record to correct to still make reqs somehow

A healthy competitive format will have a wide variety of options at approximately equal power levels in order to add depth and diversity to the metagame. Unfortunately Iron Morph, the future paradox form of Ditto capable of producing multiple transformed copies, has actually replicated every Pokemon in the OU tier and so the current metagame only consists of one pokemon and also violates species clause. It was unable to copy Kyurem due to its incompleteness, always getting Kyurem-White or Kyurem-Black, so Kyurem had to go. The replication ability also provides an easy explanation for how the vote was rigged, but the future of competitive pokemon is uncertain because Iron Morph could be anywhere, anyone, at any time, and almost certainly made the ban vote as close as it did by voting partially against it in order to throw off suspicion. These are dark days.

I was unable to get the requirement to vote (I never have), and was kinda surprised Kyurem was banned. Glad Kyurem is back!

"its the community deciding everything" -- but the only people that decide are the fewer than 200 that reach a certain point on the ladder. maybe this is showing that that system is flawed because it is not representative of the community, but rather a few people. If ghosting is such an issue for the "community decision," more people should be allowed to vote so that people don't feel forced into that position in the first place, and so the vote actually represents the community and not a few skilled players.

There's a whole host of problems with that, chief among them being that it just encourages making alts to vote with more prevalent than ever. It also means that (typically) the people with the most experience and insight into using and playing around certain Pokémon or moves are the ones who are making decisions, rather than a vast majority who may not actually grasp why a move or strategy that tears through low ladder where they play (e.g Baton Pass) is actually fine or outright bad at high ladder.

⁠@@Jfrost9101The problem with that is strategies that are overwhelming for low-ladder players will still overwhelm low-ladder players. Sure, you might say “git gud, you can deal with it if you try”. But if it is too difficult to deal with, then you will probably turn off newer players from the format.
