Man those are beauties.I wasn't even aware of the excistance of these 'overbuild' folding knifes.Looove it. Besides fixed blades,You have probably started a whole new collection for me. Very very nice,rugged looking folders. I got to have one...

Beautiful knife. really nice. I like it a lot. Having a round notch wrapping around a round pin makes a lot of sense it spreads the load out evenly and the pin wont flat spot

you have very good taste in knives. always a pleasure watching your videos.

Thanks Jim. I have a lot to think about. You have a rare position to do a side by side and to get the video up quick. YOU ARE THE MAN. My guess on the Medford is the grind may be to steep. If you take the grind up to the blood grove it will go through paper. Once the paper clears the micro bevel it widens at such an angle it will start to rip opposed to cutting the the paper. Just my guess. P.S. I hate camping also. Never understood it. Again just me.

I know this is an old video...I was searching for some info on Direware and came across this link. Nice knife..but talk about grails! That P7M8 was so nice!! Dude! That one looked minty too! Great overview as always.

Hi again Jim. Just saw this after looking for info on the D-Ware. I have a squeeze cocker HK too! My shop I worked at back in 2001 here in Canada imported a ton of pistols from Germany, and we got 50 of the old style heel release single stack squeeze/cockers, and I bought 2 since they were only 400$ CDN and in 90% condition. Great combo picture/video.

Out of the 3 on the table this is the nicest out of all of them, looks so futuristic. One day I'l get one with a flipper, and I think you did the right thing by getting it while you could

Jim, just have to say another video homerun. Very thoughtful overview on so many aspects (from the stop pin area on the tang, lock geometry, etc.). I'm on Eric's books but it'll be a while so this vid just reinforces my decision on ordering one.

I had an MF-1 and really liked it. It is rather simplistic, not the same kind of custom feel or attention to fine detail like you'd see in the more expensive stuff out there. If you can get one at a good price, go for it... just be careful with all the new fakes out there. The Extrema Ratios are well built and should be a long-life kind of knife

Doesn't bother me, I have nothing against S35VN personally, and that's the biggest change. I love the knife and am glad to have it
@JimSkeltonKnives11 жыл бұрын
Yep, you're totally right. I got way off track and meant to come back around to blade stop with a rounded point of contact vs flat blade back/round stop. Instead I went into that diatribe while I was on another part lol. But the same applies to the rounded notch in the frame (ti and CF sides) and the round thumbstuds

Just a thought on the Medford. I was talking to the sharpening guy at a knife shop today about strops and he said that if you over strop a blade, it will be too sharp to cut. He described it as it not having the teeth to grab onto the paper. I'm probably not describing this good, but maybe it is too sharp

That blade shape is very similar to the honeycomb Grimsmo, just much shorter with a cleaner grind. I was offered a direware for $1400 but felt it wasn't worth it being that it wasn't even S35vn. I really would like to have one someday.
@knifetech1019 жыл бұрын
Ahh ok... I almost traded my Gavko mako for a murdered out (by Chris Martin) solo v4 flipper. I couldn't decide based on all the video's I watched, whether I would like it or not. So I went with my gut feeling and didn't make any hasty decisions. Still I love the look and concept of dieware's. I just didn't notice you mentioning the flipper/non-flipper difference, so I wasn't sure.

@JimSkeltonKnives11 жыл бұрын
Oh I've thought about it a lot, sadly thinking as hard as I can doesn't result in any being made available LOL! I have a small group of knife friends and one reached out to Dwaine recently to see if we could get a group order discount, and that may or may not happen. But even when I catch one for sale at $400 or $600 over MSRP, I STILL miss out because it sells within SECONDS of being uploaded (usually at AZCK). I am looking at getting a Scout. I also need a Sniper Bladeworks too though dammit!

See Cliff Stamps video Knife Challenge 25 he just posted. When you are power stropping it loads up with metal and can over burnish the edge. Causing it to shave but not cut paper. I posted Cliff's video because he is well known. But I do own a Knife Sharpening Company and I do make knifes. I knew this cause I've done it enough to fix the problem.

I like your channel, but would love to see more reviews on fixed blades. Have you seen the TOPS Steel Eagle 107. If you have a tickle for overbuilt you should check this thing out. Another more expensive example is the Cold Steel Warcraft Tanto. Just a thought...
@mrkiky9 жыл бұрын
+Thatoneguy overthere Old comment, but those are both production fixed blades. If you pay some attention, just about all of Jim's videos are on custom folders that make a Sebenza look cheap. I don't think TOPS and CS are really his cup of tea.

Tough looking knife. So far in my small collection, I've stayed away from blades with a deep recurve because of the simple re-sharpening of non-recurved blades.

GREAT LOOKING KNIFE! But the lock doesn't look trustworthy enough,the last thing I want is a knife to close on my fingers while using it,especially if I had to use it in a self defense situation.I love knives and would buy it but wouldn't use as a EDC knife. I LOVE MY BENCHMADE! WITH THE AXIS LOCK FOR EDC. Anything more expensive goes behind glass to be admired by me daily.
@JimSkeltonKnives9 жыл бұрын
Johnny Sierra Nothing precarious about a framelock with lock geometry this well done. It's an early lockup, but many of the high end customs you buy today will exhibit this. ALL good makers, Direware included, will test with spine whacks to be sure there is no lock failure.

VIPER TACTICAL SOLUTIONS They are all offered in flipper and non-flipper models. I prefer the non-flipper (which is very odd for me) because the flipper tab is so huge that it bashes into your thumbnail every time you unlock and close the knife.
