I just found your channel. I used to watch you on ShopNBC and bought a ton of Invicta watches because of you. Now you are gonna make me buy knives. Lol.

The best thing about Cultrotech is their heat treat, especially on the custom knives(m390 at 64.5hrc). Their m390 is on another level, it blows away production knives in m390. Same goes for their Elmax, s110v and s125v. They get every single bit out of the steel, especially on the custom heat treat. Watch RuslanKiyasov channel, he's a Russian tester that does tests on rope and tested many Cultrotech knives. Every time the results were amazing.

Getting a knife super hard doesn't make it a better knife, especially since it makes it easier to chip.
@MFD00MTR335 жыл бұрын
@@KevinTheStallion637 sure beats 58-60hrc that most companies run their m390 at. Also higher hardness gives a steel more strength. Check out Big Brown Bears channel, but makes great knives with killer heat treats and shows what steels can do at high hardness.

looks nice! My smock just came in the mail today and this blade reminds me of the smock flipper.

The reason for the corkscrew is URS is a picnic knife. You can edc it but it wa s designed to be used at picnics.

That is a ridiculously beautiful knife... and then you got to the corkscrew. I’m probably alone on this but to me it cheapens the feel of the knife so much!! $4 Walmart multitools come with cork screws it is killing an otherwise insanely gorgeous knife for me! Also, respect to the company for paying Spyderco I feel like most companies especially outside of the US wouldn’t have done that.

Professor Edge 86 Classic officers Swiss Army knives had corkscrews. Literally a part of knife history man.

I think the corkscrew on a knife is extraneous, but it definitely doesn't cheapen the knife. That's like saying, "That spoiler on the Koenigsegg Regera cheapens it. I saw a wing like that on a Miata."
@habibfeghali12615 жыл бұрын
@@xenonram I think you nailed it perfectly with the spoiler analogy. Even not being much of a drinker at all, I think the corkscrew is a fantastic addition; what I like even more is the potential for using this same idea to build other kinds of tools into a backspacer design. This is a very innovative idea that has the potential to dramatically increase the utility of the edged-tools we carry in out pockets every day. Can't wait to get myself a Cultrotech in the next year or two...

Wow, that's an amazing knife. I think a mirrored stone washed blade is one of the best looking blade finishes, to me at least, and they did a great job with it. I think spyderco was reaching a bit by saying that's a compression lock. To me I think there are enough differences to say it's not, but good on them for just agreeing and paying the fee, and not causing more drama. Looking forward to seeing your new custom Jim!

I really liked the first one you reviewed but had trouble finding one. When I finally found one it didn't include the dice you received with yours. The cork screw makes this one look tacky.

Wow that's an interesting knife ! A shame the corkscrew is so small. It doesn't reflect the overall quality of the knife (I'm French and we have quite a few makers that are experts on making custom corkscrews). But still a beautiful knife, thanks for the review 😊

Could it be that spyderco were refering to their button-compression lock when saying this lockong system is too similar? This is actually really close to the button-compression lock, except for the slide
@JimSkeltonKnives5 жыл бұрын
M B Yes, that’s the one I was referring to. Like on the Smock.

Jim would you say it’s as smooth as Svarn2 or Zhim?
@JimSkeltonKnives5 жыл бұрын
James Wilcox I want to say yes, but it’s different because of the lock. When closing you have zero friction. It’s a different feeling. Opening is different too due to the location of the flipper, your finger is in contact with the tab longer, it feels faster

I don't have a problem with an $1800 knife, I don't even have a problem with a Russian knife; but there's no way I'm buying an $1800 Russian knife! It's cool when Chinese companies can make our dollars go further and charge production prices for midtech quality... but if the Russians want custom prices for a midtech knife, I'd rather buy American thank you very much.

Russians are doing great stuff with heat treatment of high end cutlery steel. Russians are also very meticulous when designing and qc'ing knives when they want to. My question is whether Jim receives discounts or outright freebies for his reviews. I can't say I've seen all of your reviews, Jim, but i have yet to see a review that honestly pointed out any faults with any knife in your hands.

Well this knife is going to appeal to wine drinkers, the corkscrew looks so stupid and tacky, that should be optional. Its the same for bottle openers on knifes, like why? Its stupid and tacky, a bottle opener or corkscrew isn’t a tool you use everyday and whenever you do use one, you usually have a bottle opener and corkscrew in a drawer. Other then that the knife looks awesome.
