How do they get the contrast from all stainless? I like that it isn't pattern welded but does that mean they lose the ability to control the pattern?

Even with the natural advantage of the eye popping materials in the materials these guys are still on a totally different level, the way they the way patterns are oriented with that mirror polish and no hardware showing the whole thing looks like rippling water and it is dead sexy!

You mentioned all the parts being in timascus including the "liners". Are there really liners? Or are the bolsters and liners one big piece with a milled out slot for the damasteel?

Jim, real traditional Damascus, actual Wootz with not only a pattern but also measurable performance enhancement is crucible steel. What you are talking about is modern pattern welded steel, Wootz doesn't need to be cut & forge welded to have it's pattern.
@JimSkeltonKnives
@JimSkeltonKnives 5 жыл бұрын
Robert Deskins I’m not sure what spurred this comment? But yes, I’m aware of the difference between Wootz and today’s Damascus.

@@JimSkeltonKnives I had meant the 2 messages to one message and I thought you might like to see the work Alfred Pendray is doing to recreate Wootz it's really cool. I had not meant to detract in anyway from the amazing knife in this video or the world class skill of Mr. Fischer & Mr. Wilson or, even your own taste in knives as you easily have to most impressive collection I have ever seen...... Especially that Daracsteel Deegman- it's sooooo blue! I love your channel, your enthusiasm for knives is just as apparent in guest blade episodes as any episode about the knives in your collection which I really appreciate and, the Advanced Tibia is my favorite of the knives you make. Cheers man, 🐉

also, that knife has the design to be held "backwards" you could say... where the blade is sticking out from your pinky finger/butt of hand with the blade facing away from you((same direction your knuckles are punching (away from you))....

Check out the work of Alfred Pendray trying create modern wootz
@robdeskrd
@robdeskrd 5 жыл бұрын
That worry about delamination is because it's not really Damascus steel, it's pattern welded steel. Real Wootz Damascus steel doesn't do that cause it's crucible steel and the steel comes out the crucible with the Wootz pattern in it but it is not as controllable. Here is a link to a video on some of Alfred Pendray work towards recreating actual Wootz steel, it's rather interesting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYGbgXahmKeNi5Y

The craftsmanship on this piece is very very good, but I'm not particularly a fan of the dama on timascus throughout, I feel like all that busy pattern drowns out elements of the knife that could otherwise showcase how great it is... very cool knife nonetheless

Yes, a bit late in the game here, but I don't care how pretty a knife is, if the maker sticks a shark fin into the soft of my hand, with no possible good reason (other than a dieseling ego), it is a loser. You bent way too far over backwards in some Trumpish attempt to validate the maker's stupid maneuver. It was a move so stupid and harmful to the ultimate consumer as to render all the glitz and smoking mirrors null and void. In my opinion. Many are willing to withstand the needlessly inflicted pain to validate (as you have) the 'fin' and all the money that you spend on this garish monstrosity. Thanks for the vids! Peace
@JimSkeltonKnives
@JimSkeltonKnives 3 жыл бұрын
lol, feel better now? You’ve insulted one of the greatest knifemakers to ever live and insulted me. All in the same post. All without ever having held one in your hand. As the knife sits in your hand, you’re not affected by the fin. I haven’t watched this since I uploaded it, but I’m pretty sure I mentioned this AND demonstrated it. Before I held one, I thought it would dig in the hand too, but then I held one and realized that it doesn’t. Stan wouldn’t design a knife you couldn’t fucking hold 🤦‍♂️. When you own one, you have the right to criticize it, but since you don’t, you haven’t got a clue.
