0lionheart battleborn pc has about 200 players. most of em are in contact with each other, forming mini communities and Forums for comp matches. and there is still Story and Bot Match. Both Modes witch wont get stale ( for me ) i bought this game about 2-3 months ago for under 10€ on MMOGA and played nearly 210 hours. Its great

Similar thing happened to one of my favourite multiplayer games (Aliens vs Predator), I ended up playing the same people most of the time and the few people that still played were so good I just couldn't keep up. Well you just have to pick your game knowing the popularity its gonna have. Also, you're not gonna play this game in 3 years, I don't get the argument of people saying "well I need to be able to play this in 10 years". You don't, there are tons of videogames, and nobody comes back to a 2 years old game unless it's a solo one. You buy it to have fun until the next thing. I play Overwatch and I know it's gonna be emptied in like, 1 or 2 years (For Honor will be the first jab to the player base I think), and I don't care. On the other hand, Battleborn was gonna flop and everybody knew it. Bought it anyway cause I found it at 10 bucks and it's worth just that, or maybe 20-30, for the solo alone and a few MP matches.

Loved that game! Still play the single player every now and then. About a year ago I tried MP on PC and couldn't find a match after a pretty long time waiting. If it's hard to find a match on PC I guarantee its dead on console. Which is a shame. Like you said the MP was really fun.

You had to actually look for the good marketing, which defeats the purpose. I still try to watch the Battleborn Boot Camp trailer, even though I only ever saw it on KZbin. If that was their ad, I think it would've gotten more people, as it better defined what people were working with. Yeah, it's a longer video, but at that time, video ads in stores were still being used. Even if you watched 5 minutes, you'd be interested in the personalities you see and look into it.

People know what they want, and will ultimately support the title they feel provides them with what they want. Not everyone will agree that these choices are always good ones but neither you nor I can tell other people about what they should want or not want. I for example have no interest whatsoever in Overwatch. It's nothing against Overwatch personally, I just think competitive games of any sort breed cancerous behavior. I can do without these particular types of games, but that doesn't really impact the vast amount of people who really like that sort of thing.

The producer of a game team will actually push the team for better graphics even tho it hurts performance because the graphs show that it sells better. I got battleborn in a humble bundle for 15 bucks like 2 months after launch. Tried a bit of it but can't run it with my dated 750 Ti and Pentium G2020. Overwatch, however, is optimized enough for me to play at decent framerates, and it has honestly been the most fun i've had in years. I've invested 100+ hours into it so far. With that said, I really want to try battleborn again once I get a better cpu.

It actually is gearbox's fault, their greed is what made this game fail. They could've released the game as a 30$ or 20$ title, or even as a f2p multiplayer title with the campaign as a paid expansion. If they had done any of that they would've had a serious competition against overwatch, I remember people complaining and having doubts about a full price game that looks more like a f2p moba shooter and that doesn't have single player elements. How the fact that Gearbox competes with Activision suddenly makes Gearbox less greedy? Activision made Blizzard shittier than it ever was, ruined WoW, produced pay2winStone, invented lootboxes in their current state, true. I still don't see how it relates to Gearbox though. Gearbox are scum, just as Blizzard or any other company is. The timing of Battleborn release in attempts to cash in on people who couldn't wait for Overwatch only serves to prove that. I don't see any fault of Blizzard other than successfull marketing, which by the way wasn't even that aggressive. Indeed. Both companies were greedy, but Pitchford decided to double down on the pennypinching and still charge for a game that many people already saw as "Overwatch, but worse and more expensive". Funny enough had they made it F2P they would have actually gained more money in the longrun, but they would have taken a launch hit in the money department. This seem to be a problem with the industry in general. The sad part is Fortnite was in the same position, decided to offer it's PUBG-style playmode for free, and is now more remembered than the thing it cloned.

I'll disagree: it stands in par of dark, shady, business(AKA plans that go wrong in seconds) as much as I want to separate the two. The only difference is at the same time, OW has well done updates and loads of progress made to becoming 2.0. Battleborn couldn't see the wolves in the forest due to the load of mismanagement, loads of unrealistic expectations, and Randy in charge of screwing up.(It appears that Randy is now a unlucky name to be born with.)

The woman you are talking about is Reina. A.K.A Thunder Thighs. Her running animation is pretty funny. I have and enjoy both games, but i feel like Overwatch was way over hyped. Battleborn deserved more hype and Overwatch should've gotten a bit less. They're both fun but OVerwacth just feels really basic. And with the way the game is more often than not i feel more compelled to just fuck around rather than put in any effort to win like in Battleborn. My friend and i once got our entire team to be Mercy because we felt like playing damage buffed attack Mercy.

I grabbed it off a humble bundle sale, the 2K bundle to be specific, it was up for 15 bucks, and that's including other games in the bundle. I think that's a even larger slap in the face for those who bought it for 65 dollars on day one. The PC has less than 300 players per day globally and looking for a match in countries other than USA or Europe take at least 2 hours. The upside is that with such a small player base, the community have some of the friendliest people who are willing to help new players. 2k didn't handle battleborn well at all but it is a great game that has a great if small community.

I think one of Battleborn's shortcomings was the lack on focusing the characters. Overwatch couldn't stop waving about Winston and Tracer and Reaper and Reinhardt and Mercy and they sort of became iconic (yes Jim, I'm using the Ubisoft word!) in a rather short timespan. Battleborn's characters look also really appealing, but I couldn't name you a single character nor describe what his character is. Overwatch quickly labelled every character and gave it a certain trait to make it stand out. The smart, wise Winston, the bubbly, cheeky Tracer, the trying-so-hard-to-be-evil Reaper and so on. Maybe if Gearbox would've dedicated more time to showcasing their heroes (along with a lower price tag) then people would've actually given more of a shit. I didn't even know what Battleborn was until it basically hit the shelves and at that point I was just thinking 'so.. it's..Overwatch but not Overwatch. alright'

I don't think battleborn's characters are as appealing. The overwatch artstyle is a sythesis of the last 10 years of pixar style animation mixed with marvel superheroes. It was ingeneered and polished to the extreme for mass appeal. Battleborn had some nice design and neat ideas, but not half the consistancy and polish to make them really pop. And you can't blame them: they dont have even a tenth of blizzards resources (a complitely random estimation). Blizzard is the only dev out there that can be sure to make its money back, and opt to polish a game for years rather than making yearly releases until the consumers are bored. It helps that they have WoW to make a stream of revenus that has remained quite consistent for more than a decade.

On PC, you can find a match... against 5 players all at Lvl 100... all of whom were using the same DLC character (Alani i think is her name)... And about your comment about how Battleborn didn't do anything wrong, well... I'd agree it did nothing *major* wrong. The game itself has issues, I.e. performance (especially on PC where the framerate can go from 18 to 160 by turning your head, not even joking), balancing (the 5 Lvl 100s all using Alani is just sad), and bugs (enemies and players getting stuck in geometry, especially in the *same spot* near the beginning of the 3rd Campaign mission) that Gearbox haven't even bothered to fix since launch. No wonder the Steam reviews are mixed!

Some of the female characters in BB are attractive I think, just in a different way. Along with the art style being more rugged, many of the character's aesthetics are more rugged as well. You could argue they look a bit more realistic overall. I find it very hard to meaningfully compare the characters in OW and BB though, because while the art designs are different, they are also similar enough for my untrained mind to instinctively place them into the same category. All I can really say is OW is shinier, BB is more matte in tone.

TripleSK7 Some people find fighting other players online more difficult than a solitary game over prolonged periods of time as unlike AI players adapt and change their tactics almost infinitely in comparison. Whilst patterns and techniques can be learned and observed in both something like Dark Souls and a multiplayer shooter, there's no faster update to the enemies capabilities than a person over a patch. I may have started rambling somewhere.

They had a very simple grindfest FPS MOBA shooter in a closed beta and decided to overhaul the entire game to release it on steam so no one knew what it was any more, then they overhauled it a few more times losing players each time. lots of work to lose players, who knows why they kept on doing it, may as well release a "firefall classic" at that point. RIP though, I only liked the 1st game.

Well, if by "simple" you mean the popular comparison scenario of "Vanilla Star Wars Galaxies", then maybe yeah. ((This post is going to very lengthy with pretty much zero-new-info, and lots of repetition of mine from parts of the internet; I just like writing a lot because that's how I function.)) Right at the start of 2014 (even before the release) the game gradually become worse and worse (especially when they first made the thumping / mining to be the very-only-source for printing / crafting-materials and quick-missions become the very-only-source for the crystite / money. Well, okay maybe it wasn't as "black-and-white" as I described here. But point is that they simply forced players to specific things instead of having the freedom to whatever they want and still get almost everything). ((And this time I don't even delve into the removal of the arena-PvP-section and the "server / region"-jumping-addon being disabled and making their automatic-system even worse (latter being one of the major reason that "killed-off" the PvP since the matchmaking didn't happen cross-region / server, or even cross zone-channel / shard.))) And the "release"-version (August 2014) was a complete 900-degrees-turn gameplay and such-wise: - Gone was the complex yet simple enough equipment-system with interesting "Horizontal"-balance in which all equipments were viable; now it is just the plain old "no-brainer" level-based gear in which the biggest number is the best. This for the most part also killed the market: Only the "purple"-stuff become worth selling. And even then thanks to the removal of the "durability" or "equipment-sink"-system, there was no point using the market at all if you had already gotten all "one-set-and-nothing-variable-purples". ((In a somewhat odd comparison, I used to tell the original-durability system being just next inspiration from "Dark Cloud"-games, in which you level-up your equipments individually and then break them down to boost & build up your next weapons. Not much was different since you were able to get refined "boost"-materials and other nice things you needed for "research" plus other rewards once you salvaged the equipments you had "nurtured" really well (I.E. dying the least amount as possible). But then again, I also had gotten used to "limited-usage"-weapons in various games already, most obvious one being "(Project) Entropia Universe", in which majority of the equipments simply cannot be required at all, but you could get the 1% item-value of the "deposit" out them by selling them to (NPC) Trade-Terminals, or as I have nicknamed them "Reverse vending machines".)) - Gone is the constant invasions of the strategic-posts which required defending from invasion-forces or else you'd might lose a really good mining-area temporarily; now it is just the level-zoned areas that keeps you "kicking out" whenever you're either too low levelled (by making the enemies immune to your attacks E.G: like in say Borderlands and even doesn't give you XP-rewards (at least in my experiences)) Or it outright makes you "down-levelled" when entering the zone you're over-leveled within (okay, it kinda is like "Spiral Knights", but it's still done far more worse. And certainly "nothing" like in "Guild Wars 1" (in which you could simply keep collecting skill-points thus making your characters stronger that way). Oh yeah, and the ghost-town-effect Mark Kern really didn't want. But internet has the article(s) already "all around", so that shouldn't be new-news. ((For a reminder, supposedly Mark Kern hadn't been in creative control for the whole 2013 before the resignation / leaving the studio at the start of 2014.)) Worst thing about this release-version: It was tested behind semi-closed doors. We used to have a Public Test Environment for upcoming-version. But this one was very stealthy / casually announced at some point (maybe 6-months-before) and not that many actually bothered join it (apparently) since not only you actually had apply for an invitation, it supposedly was also quite NDA-version too. Sure, there was some public things mention "the (player-character) speed is much faster" and such other "trivial" things. But otherwise the release-version came quite out of the left-field, even with all the (vague) "teasings" ("Simplifying the player-progress & equipment-system", and something related). Worst thing of course being how badly, if not almost worse than in beta the gameplay-performance was (I'll summarize this all to "escort-missions"...). So yeah, we were promised (and originally paid for) a "fast-paced sandbox"-game, yet this somehow got turned into "yet-another-one-aisle-theme-park"-game, or as many has dubbed this current as "World of Warcraft with guns and slightly more higher-leaping jump" (seriously though, the jumpjets / jetpacks or generally the traversing in the game got utterly amputated (E.G.before you could set-up all your glider-pads in row / set-up a new-one as soon as you landed thus tactically speaking glide all around the map 24/7; now you can only have one active for ~10-seconds with a 120(?)-second cooldown). Whatever went wrong, went really badly wrong, and we all players "lost" a very good game due whatever forces. ((In a somewhat similar fashion what happened with "Dead Island Epidemic", but me thing they on purpose sabotaged the run-performance in order to pull of the "flop-scheme" (I personally highly recommend for Mel Brook's "The Producers"-movie & Uwe Boll to understand better this scheme; it is still surprisingly unknown even today considering "it's been there since always).))

I bought Battleborn when it went on Humble Bundle a couple months ago for $10. It's actually much better than I thought it would be, and I had been disappointed by the two open betas I had played. My biggest gripe about the game is how on-the-nose and ridiculous most of the characters and plot is. For a game that pushes its story and style so much, I have to say, much of it is truly terrible. There are characters that look like reskins of eachother (Oscar Mike and Whiskey Foxtrot), two that look like body morphs of eachother with the same face and hairstyle (Shane and Aurox & Reyna) and just absolutely silly characters like a gigantic underbite skull, a monstrously deformed thing with an adam's apple the size of a truck, chubby pink commando bird, penguin mech, a badly dressed lizard dude, etc. Not to mention the mysterious disappearance of one of Thorn's shoes. Just makes no sense and half the characters look like they came from a "Random All" button on a character creator. Compare to Overwatch's bright, fun and likeable cast and "I get it" abilities, it's easy to see why it got a lot more attention. Didn't deserve to be as much of a failure as it was though.

Fun fact: one of the move speed gear items explains why Thorn only has one shoe. Mike and Whiskey are clones. :D Whiskey was defective. The lore is fun if you get into it. :) Whiskey has some more visual cues that tie him to other characters, but I don't want to spoil it. It took me ages to see why people said they (clones) were the same race as some of the other non human characters. Probably because I don't have too much of those characters' lore yet. I just started unlocking Mike's, but Orendi is pulling me away.

I don't care about all that - the software DID do wrong by me. It starts you off in a PvE mission that you can't skip, quit out of, or save and quit to finish later. It ran like absolute dogshit for me and my older graphics card, staying mostly in the teens after reducing every graphics setting I could (while Overwatch runs 45-60 on medium w/ some high settings), and to change some of the graphics settings you have to fully restart the game (remember what I said about not being able to save and quit in the middle of a mission?). I have not started it back up since that second boot, nor do I have any desire to do so.

Don't care how the Blizzard fan want to defend it, OW is severely lacking in content to a ridiculous point with next to nothing significant added since release aside from Ana. Whereas Battleborn launched with more modes, a campaign, and has had a steady stream of same emotes and skins that Overwatch had since Day 1 . As someone who owned both Battleborn and Overwatch and has since sold Battleborn (for $1) Overwatch is the better game. There is content, but that's besides the point because Overwatch TROUNCES Battleborn in gameplay, there's more likeable characters, a better art style that doesn't hurt my eyes when I try to play for extended periods, and just has overall more polished and balanced gameplay. Do explain why Overwatch is better in gameplay, has more likeable characters and better art style. "More likeable characters" is all about opinion and personal taste (vsm1 made a good point because that's all what many Overwatch fans want), so someone else might like more Battleborn characters than Overwatch characters. Gameplay is also about opinion and personal taste; in this case I personally prefer Battleborn, especially Incursion but I do like Capture as well, plus it has a Campaign mode while Overwatch lacks it. As for art style, I think both are kinda similar when they're both cartoony and colorful. I don't see a whole lot difference, except maybe better details in Overwatch or Idk. What DOES make Overwatch a whole lot better is it has a bigger lore going on. Comics, animated shorts, web pages (pre-Sombra release) and just more story. They just need to build it correctly instead of making mistakes in the story and timeline and such.

Old post so I don't know what's your view on Overwatch now, but for now I say I agree. Blizzard needs to be called out sometimes. I was a former fan of Overwatch but now I'm more like "I *sometimes* enjoy the game to some extent, I love some characters and interested about the lore and I like to see the animated shorts, comics and origin stories but else I'm tired of the rest of the bullshit". Battleborn has many pros where Overwatch have their cons, example the Campaign is a nice add (where you CAN go single-player into) and is a shame Overwatch doesn't have it. The only Campaign-like mode in Overwatch currently is the Uprising mode where you play as Mercy, Tracer, Reinhardt and Torbjörn. Because that is connected to canon lore. Well, there's also Junkenstein's Revenge but it's not really canon... it's based on a fictional story told by Reinhardt in a canon story (the first Junkenstein comic).

As a long-time Evolve fan (yes, we do exist :P) I sympathise with the Battleborn community. Sucks when a multiplayer game you actually enjoy gets repeatedly trashed, especially when it feels like hating on your game has become a trend (whether it deserved it or not). With regards to Battleborn itself I played the open beta and decided it wasn't for me. Didn't find the gameplay all that appealing, although I did like the characters available. Lots of really cool and wacky ones.

I'm glad you like AC, but after 2 and the multiplayer of brotherhood, Ubisoft ran out of any decent ideas for the game, they got something with the sailing in black flag but then they forgot about it, and when it comes to the Division, its like a 3rd person shooter Borderlands without all the color, fun and the variety of enemies and cars, I really fail to see the importance of Ubisoft in this industry, they get a good idea and they run it to the ground, lets hope their new extreme sport game doesnt get the same treatment.

"kicked shitless by Overwatch" is a bit of an unfair statement as it implies Overwatch was even trying to compete with it. Are we forgetting the part where the folks behind Battleborne started twiter fights with Blizzard over how great Battleborne was going to be? I don't care for anything Battleborne has to offer but in its defense, it is a very different beast than Overwatch and should have been treated as such. Instead of using that fact in their marketing, Gearbox found it to be a good idea to show off and compare their game directly to Overwatch and claim to be the superior product. It's their own fault that the consumers thought it looked similar to Overwatch because Gearbox made a direct effort to compare the two themselves. Had Gearbox cared less about their own edgy, in-your-face company image and more about the image of their game, Battleborne might not have ended up as such a shit show. People don't root for you and your games because you project yourself as the "no fucks given" bad boy. They stand behind you for releasing quality games and providing proper support for said games. Proper support includes proper marketing that actually highlights what makes the game unique doesn't insert itself into a competition that doesn't even exist. That's not how you get your game to stand out. It just makes your game look like a try-hard copycat when you throw it up against a company that's several times larger than you.

5 months later, I picked Bottleborn's Digital Deluxe edition for around $10 on Steam. And I'm having a blast with it! When I can find people playing it, that is. I fucking love battleborn. i played that game a LOT. it brought me genuine joy, i was so amazed at it. i didnt even expect it to be that good. i liked the colours, the characters, i wanted to be good at playing a lot of them. they all play really well, in really interesting and unique ways and you actually have to practice them and unlock abilities to get really good. when the waiting times became longer i got really worried that there was a community problem, that there werent enough people playing. i hadnt really paid much attention to that, before that. after a while it became almost impossible to find a match in less than 30 minutes, and then you were lucky when someone 1. didnt just drop out and start the whole matching process anew 2. your teammates were decently high levelled. i have been playing overwatch for a few months now and i see why people might like it more than battleborn, but it isnt "better" than battleborn, its completely DIFFERENT. its a fast paced shooter, battleborn is a first person moba. playing overwatch is a lot easier and simpler and quicker, playing battleborn requires a lot more strategy and patience. just seeing the spite and nastiness coming from overwatch fans "look your game is dying haha :D" was pretty saddening, i mean i love both games, i dont think there is a need for this sort of behaviour. i would love to get back into battleborn if there is ever a chance of it being revived, my level 100 account and my master lvl caldarius are just sitting there now. also sorry for writing so much. its just a topic i have not been able to talk about much, recently.

Poor Battleborn, if they released before or after Overwatch it might have been successful. It seems like a classic Gearbox game of mad people being mad. I think Paladins will do better than Battleborn in the long run. That being said, it should have been free with microtransactions from the start so it would dominate the market as a trend setter rather than it looking like it copied other ganes.
