the assistant of Jinshi is called Gaoshun. Gaoshun has a habit of calling Maomao "Xiaomao". The prefix "xiao-" is equivalent in meaning and usage to the japanese suffix "-chan". Mao means cat so he essentially calls her a little cat which fits well with her chibi animations ^^

In the Tang dynasty where the manga and anime is based on, it's not even frowned upon. Cuz it's the golden age of a romantic era when cultures and romantic philosophy flourished.

Nicotine can extracted into water by soaking the leaves and a very small amount is lethal when ingested. 7:29 it mentions the little girls older sister passed away, she was a courtesan dumped by this guy and she decided not to live any longer. Volume 1 of the LN is covered in the first 12 episodes and fills in some of the things overlooked in the anime. Volume 2 is covered in the next 12 episodes again with details not shown in the anime. I've made the mistake of reading volume 3 so now I'm waiting to see how they animate what I know which makes the waiting worse.
