Also how they interviewed him they asked more about "what he did" and not "why he did it." They had $125k operating expenses listed in the public records (seen in the video) and they didn’t even itemize their costs, it’s listed as “expenses”. Also Jirard admits there are some years he skimmed a “few” thousand in a couple of those years. Why are people claiming all the money is still in the account and wasn’t used by Jirard or his family? I’m baffled.

Jirard and his brother have the audacity to claim they cant find a reputable charity to donate to, that they didnt want to "pay some doctor's salary" (direct quote btw) but they felt entitled to $125, 000? AND THEY LIED OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. KNOWINGLY LIED. The wholesome gamer image was all an act. No one is this dumb and hes been caught lying. It runs so much deeper, roughly 30-70k of raised funds have been unrecorded on an annual basis. They also have many fundraising avenues which are entirely unaccounted for as in we have no way of tracking how much was earned, they make no statements about how much they earn, and it is entirely unrecorded. The amount sitting in the account seems to be a "we were caught fund" where they can send it after being found out however the investigation caught on to all the additional funds that were never recorded for the charity meaning that they cannot simply send the amassed funds to a charity because they would still be liable and accountable for the 300-700K+ that they never recorded.

Accountant here: Operational costs / business expenses can be anything related to the operation of the organization and is considered essential to run the operation. So well a lot of things can be considered an essential business expense: rental of the location to do the stream, Wages to pay contracted employees, equipment used, advertisement expenses, utilities expenses, food and drinks ect. Just as long as you are able to justify reasonably that these are used for the charity event, it is a pass. It could even be expenses not specifically for the day(s) the charity event is held, you could justify them as expenses used for pre-meetings (before the charity event) between partners and staff to plan the charity event.

I don't know about most people, but if I found out the charity I ran didn't send out any money in more then a decade, I would put any work I was doing on hold until I get this issue fixed, and what's more I would make a public apology instantly telling what I found out and how I will try and fix the massive mistake I made. Instead of staying quite and just hope no one discovered the mess up and then call me out on it. Course sense Jared didn't do that and its only when his mistake is called out by someone else, any attempts of him apologizing and getting his side of the story (even if its true he just F-Up) is gonna be taken with a massive grain of salt by a lot of people, cause you got caught with what you did.

Damnnnnn, that also really sucks cause over the time of 9 years, in today's money, (though this is a rough take-it-with-a-grain-of-salt estimate I just did, and I have no clue if something about charities has this not apply somehow) they would've essentially lost 10s of thousands of dollars, maybe even 100 thousand or more, in spending power even if they spent it all now compared to if they'd spent it consistently over those 9 years, just due to the devaluation of inflation. If this isn't inaccurate, that might genuinely be worth putting the effort into to make up as well, and I just hope everything sorts itself out well and good, cause even the large amount of money present now could do a lot of good.

If you donate to a non profit, you can say you only want the money to be used only for xyz. However, organizations can set up rules for this to avoid anything that might come up. For example of the funds need to be reallocated to something else, you can ask the donor for permission to do so. It's advised that it's done in writing to make sure everything is kosher. I would recommend looking up restricted funds for more information, I'm not an expert, just found a lot of this doing quite a bit of research.

I want jirard to some how turn out to be the good guy but i have doubts Regardless of the trust is breeched. If your freind acidentally drops and breaks a family heirloom trust is breeched. Jirard either purposly dropped the heirloom or he accidentally did but why should i trust him after that if in the future he is still the completionist the open hand foundation may not. Jirard has doomed what ever legacy it could of had. But to be a bit more uplifting let it be a lesson to any "non profit" that gets greedy they got to behave and do a good job.

To be fair... as long as all of the money stayed untouched for so long his argument that he wasn't aware is atleast theoretically believeable, so I atleast wouldn't go so far to call it outright malicious fraudulent behavior. His image should be fine if the money actually arrives at the mentioned charitys within a short timeframe. Even if he had ulterior motives, which is possible, he would just go out with a small dent in his image... but hey, nobody is immune against mistakes, so without proof it is hard to tell. If however the money was touched or does not get transfered as promised... that is when things truly grow suspicious.

Honestly, though I watch the FPS podcast and love Jake Baldino, SkillUp and Lucy James, I won't claim to know much about Jirard as a person. I know he works a lot and does a lot of charity work, but I really hope that he's not into anything shady, because he 'seems' like a great guy. SkillUp himself linked the Jobst and Mutahar videos on the second most recent "This Week in Games" episode on his channel, so I think even his friends and colleagues are in the dark on this as we all are.

I think what that person in chat was trying to say is that they didnt blatantly steal ppls money and pocket it. I can agree that it took me by surprise to hear they didnt pocket it. In this day and age of scammers doing rug pools with so many stories about NFT and crypto scams, i was fully expecting to hear that the money was pocketed. It does just sound like a case of incompetence and negligence. Hopefully this story will end with either the money going to these charities or everyone getting their money back.

@Themacattack12096 ай бұрын
The “expenses” could be how they are. Of course they’re not going to immediately pocket the entirety of the donations because that would raise a red flag and they would quickly be caught. Using those “expenses” and claiming them as fundraising expenses is how they could be taking that money without being obvious with it.

Don't forget the lost research time, the lost value of that money over ten years, the mysterious and inconsistent expenses they spent over that time period, and the fact that Jirard stated multiple times that the money being donated was actually being sent to the charities he mentioned, which it wasn't. He and his family run the company, and Jirard said in his interview with Muta, that he was directly informed of the money sitting there, over a year ago, yet he continued to raise money and claim that the money was being sent to charity. He lied to everyone who donated, and he allowed his family to do this without interference. People trusted him, he lied to them, and for all we know, the money isn't even there. Whether you're a fan of his or not, this is genuinely disappointing.

He had a due diligence responsibility as a director of the charity. If you claim that you're dispersing donations and you're not, the fact that you didn't bother to check doesnt make it not a scam. He was in a position of trust and responsibility and he misled people for his own benefit. "I didn't know" is an excuse that didn't work when you have a responsibility to know.
