Guy with long hair here. Matman also makes caps that loop into headgear. It does wonders for protecting my hair and ears. Hair still gets tangled though under the cap, hence why I'm here wstching this video. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the info :) I have basically been doing this, but without the hairbands you recommend. I will definitely give them a try. I have tried several different hairstyles and this one seems to be the best so far. I searched jiu jitsu hairstyles and was happy to know I already did it this way with the braided pony.

I'll give this a try, I appreciate this video. Thank you. My hair gets everywhere during my rolls. I hate when I find my way to top side control and I end up smothering a guy but my buns come loose and my hair has managed to fall down. I feel bad for the guy who has to deal with that lol This will hopefully help! Just bought the hair ties!!

One hairstyle that has KIND OF worked for me is one I learned from a Ronda Rousey video where she has two low buns in the back of her head. I'm going to try the braided double secured pony today! Definitely looking for something that protects my hair better than just a shitty pony/bun I have to redo every round lol

I recommend 2 braids (Dutch or French) and then tied in a bun at the bad of my neck. Takes 3 hair-ties.

None of these will stay for me but thank you for trying 😄💜 I have to do Dutch braids or French braids and then wrap them into a bun. That’s the only style I’ve found that actually holds up!! Otherwise I’m eating hair, it’s falling out into my face, etc 😂😂

Does anyone have a solution for shoulder/slightly-below-shoulder length hair. When I tie it up at the back it comes undone pretty quickly because it slides a little bit and is really loose already. And I have shorter hair at the front and I get bangs in my eyes…

Hey everyone! I like to do a high pony, then do two braids. Then if it comes loose I can just pull the two braids to tighten it, like how you pull a ponytail to tighten it 😊

I'm surprised this is the only relevant video on my youtube search "how to long hair for judo". Like I see plenty of women with long hair practice judo, I even saw kyushin ryu jujitsu demonstrations have a guy with long hair (that crazy dude had it just in a free ponytail). I've been playing guitar for a long time and as a side product have a very long hair, it reaches the belt in the back, and I've been thinking for a long time what to do with it. I don't care that much about the hair getting slightly damaged, I have strong hair, but what I hate is it being in the way and being yanked or pulled when it's not even in the middle of technique. My best guess so far is braiding it low in the neck and putting it under the gi collar in the back, but I haven't stress tested that idea. The bonus on that is that I tend to leave it braided after sleeping out of lazyness anyway since I can't live with hair open or I'll choke and dirty it in everything. It does work in the other parts of life though like weightlifting and rolling in the bed, as braided it doesn't yank the scalp roots but is just a strong rope. What I hate about the bun is how it's like a huge hard tumor in the back of your head. Like when you're rolling it's gonne be right there. And it sometimes starts to unravel too easily.

I wear a high bun. Having the bun on the back of your head makes it hard to be in guard since you'd be lying on the bun.

@@ulfr3297 just do it brother it feels so much nicer in training and in general ur so much more free without long hair. I don't regret it at all and am really happy i made that decision. I think i would've quitted bjj if i didn't cut my hair. But of course i understand ur struggle. My hair meant a lot to me too and i also strongly identified with being the dude with long hair and i was scared it wouldn't look as good when i cut it or that i would "lose some of my personality" by cutting it of but it wasn't like that at all and i even look better with short hair😂🙏🏼
