Thank You for your clear demonstation. I had all the utility people out... because I wanted to dig a dry well to help with drainage...I was so confused after talking to them( I think it was intentional!)

Good video, was always curious how these lines look. In texas, we call 811 before digging and someone will come out and mark utilities. Not sure if that applies to other states.

they will only mark lines they installed. NOT the private lines that might have been put in. Sadly

Wow. How old is the home? I was expecting at least rock overlying gas, power if there was no conduit!!!

Thank you.

What part of the country are you from ? I have been in the locate service for 23 yrs. I HAVE NEVER SEEN fiber optic cable going directly to the house. No tc box. Pwr. cable not in conduit. Well gas ? I have never seen a gas line look like that going from the road to the house.. Nothing up to code?

I have a high pressure gas line that crosses right through the middle of my property and I need to put in a dry well. I need to figure out how to cross it or how all of that goes so I can better my drainage.
@JJCentral-DIY Жыл бұрын
Newer gas lines have a tracer wire buried with it. Utility markers can find that and mark lines for you for free in most states.

@@JJCentral-DIY Yeah they've had to mark it twice for projects I've been doing. I just wasn't sure if it was something I could dig around or even put drainage over, etc. They about had a fit when I put a garden in over top of it LOL.

Very good video My question is , I am planning to dig 10 feets down and gas line is passing in that area going to gas meter. What are my options?
@JJCentral-DIY3 ай бұрын
Call marking service and they will mark the line. Then you can dig around it and hand dig of needed for the specific area of pipe crossing.

@@JJCentral-DIY Thanks for the quick reply. I did called and line is passing in the area of design. My question is.. It says , hand dig the area as 1/2 inch line is passing. I am building basement entrance in the area. Is the gas pipe loose enough in the ground to move around 18 inches?

I thought you would do tell us how to detect the buried utilities!
@JJCentral-DIY8 ай бұрын
In short no one can without the equipment. I do mention calling 811 or the utility company and they do that for free.

Thank you so much. Is it 3 feet both ways like each side? Im putting a no dig fence in and the only thing i need to do is hammer in the spike for the post. It shouldnt go deep.
@JJCentral-DIY7 ай бұрын
Mark your spikes for recommended depth and drive it no more than the required depth. Getting the utility company to mark the yard is always recommended.

@@JJCentral-DIY thank you for replying. They did mark the areas and your video helped me understand how it works and how far to dig if I needed to.

Do you think it will be a problem to dig up weeds/grass around this corner of the house to de-weed and mulch it into a bed? Like are these lines that shallow? I usually use a pick for the weeds
@JJCentral-DIY Жыл бұрын
All lines except cable go straight down and then turn. So you won't hit by weeding. It is also a good idea to have a foot of paver stone or concrete around the perimeter of the house to prevent wood rot, water back flow, weeds etc. Start your garden a foot away from the house and don't mulch against the house.
@romascopa8461 Жыл бұрын
@@JJCentral-DIY Don't think I've ever seen that. Is that below the mulch that goes up to the house?
@Moondoggy19418 ай бұрын
@@romascopa8461 I've seen it once, the homeowner hit the gas line with a hand trowel shovel, kind you use to plant a 6 pack of pansies, we laughed about that for over a year. The gas line was only about 3 inches deep, rare, and strange but not my district so not my problem, I just tell the boss.
@reggiemuhire21712 жыл бұрын
So do you suggest turning off the gas with the shut off valve first to be safe ?
@JJCentral-DIY2 жыл бұрын
If you have access to the shut off at the street, yes you certainly turn it off. If you don't, call the utility markers and get the lines marked before you dig.
