So men act like its no big deal for women to tolerate transwomen (biological men) in womens spaces.

I don't think she was "lured and goaded" into anything. Agree with her or not, but she's been very clear about WHY she is speaking out. She's a survivor of abuse and SA, and passionately believes that female only spaces are integral for the safety of females. For her this is clearly deeply personal, and she's said before that her agents and everyone involved with her on a business level advised her against speaking out. At about the 5 min mark: Wow! Are you saying JK Rowling deserves death threats and being shunned because she spoke up? You sound like an American, you should promote freedom of speech, especially for people in other countries that do not have a Constitution which guarantees freedom of expression. JK Rowling has a platform we average people do not, and her bravery is commendable not foolhardy. Telling wealthy people to quietly enjoy their wealth and not worry about the suffering of others is a horrible social message. Some rich people build rocket ships and have fancy parties, some rich people provide mosquito netting and clean water to rural communities, and others give voice to girls who are afraid to speak up. When history looks back on this time, JK Rowling will have her mention just like Rosa Parks: a real woman who said “enough! I exist and I am worthy of respect.”

He is on the Hill which is a very liberal environment. He is being very careful to keep his defense for her mild enough not to be ostracized by the "tolerant left" in his workplace. You'll notice he stressed she has the right to do so and that she believes in what she said managed to sneak in how intolerant the left is when saying she would have been better off not saying anything. He is going with the Mark Twain method where you phrase something softly to exactly what you can get away with saying to someones face without them immediately realizing that you've called them out. As for sounding like an American sounds like you've been listing to the faction that believes all speech they don't like is hate speech which is mostly one one side of the political divide (not exclusively, but the majority of it). Many Americans myself included may feel someone is a fool when they speak but unlike those that demand something be done about hate speech don't seek to have them silenced but will be happy to disagree with or even sometimes mock them. As long as they are not calling for violence, doxing their enemies, posting their secure information, or making provably false factual claims about what they have done they can display their unpleasantness if they wish in my opinion.

JK was attacked by trans activists even before she posted a single word on the subject: it was a single “like” of a single tweet that set them off initially. There’s very little being nice works in that context. And the much more essential lesson of “Harry Potter” is standing up for what is right regardless of the consequences. JK has done just that.

This was an incorrect and embarrassingly deceptive framing of the JK Rowling situation. She isn’t an anti-trans activist by any means, though that’s how she’s been painted. It would be more accurate to say she is pro-women. She just happened to have made a fairly moderate statement pushing back at legislation in the UK that was too broad and was eroding women’s rights. For this she was made a villain, and she has stood her ground on the issue because she has the money and power to do so against tremendous pressure. She feels that she has the obligation to use her influence for a cause she feels passionately about (and frankly is probably MORE passionate now that she’s seen how ridiculous the opposition has become). Why should she stop talking about it? It’s very strange to me that people take her children’s/YA books and use them as some justification as to why she shouldn’t have her views. Besides the fact that they are FICTION, her books had kids that were a little different learning to find their place, but that wasn’t the focal point of the series, so it’s an odd point to cling to. TBH I don’t even really think the characters were particularly diverse or different in the first place, so I don’t get why they made people feel so accepted and seen. But there also isn’t anything to suggest that being different meant you got to force everyone to accept you or that you got to make other people feel worse so that you felt better. When women say they don’t feel comfortable with trans women in certain spaces, they are being told they are bigots and their discomfort is transcended by the need of the trans women to be affirmed as women. She has the same opinion as Robbie, that consenting adults can do whatever they want to their bodies and live according to their wishes. But she also draws a line and says there are immutable differences between women and trans women. And she is concerned that the bar is set so low that if anybody just declares themselves a woman they suddenly must be accorded access to women’s spaces, which can be problematic. The issue shouldn’t be this complicated, but it has become so thanks to activism that has gone overboard. I’m not even a fan of Rowling, but on this issue I agree with her. It’s just the most bizarre thing that we’re supposed to accept the concept that women are vulnerable to men, the patriarchy is bad, but if men say they are women, they are no longer stronger and if they boss us around and take our things it’s ok because they’re not the patriarchy anymore. They’ve become women, so now they’re in charge of our side too. What is this?

One in which people insist that others are incorrect in using terms like "man" or "woman" while being unable to provide objective definitions for these terms themselves.
