Bruce Lee was a great teacher. All his students were exceptional in their own way. Thats what Bruce would have wanted, be the best version of yourself.

today's mixed martial artist should be able to entertain educate in a manner that makes fans and spectators want to introduce this kind of discipline into their everyday life. Victoria Lee was well on her way to proving this theory without going out of her way. I believe I have 3 to 5 years to prove it. Even though she is not in the physical to witness it. She can still get full spiritual recognition for martial arts being the fastest and most efficient way for one to learn their own body's capabilities and limitations thus becoming physically fit mentally sound spiritually balanced being able to express physical freedom. If you would like to try and help keep her dream alive you can wish or prey combination of both. And then live in accordance to validate such a confession of love.

The truth is.... Bruce never certified ANYONE to be a Jeet Kune Do INSTRUCTOR! Only Jun Fan Gung Fu!

Dont get hung up on who was "authorized" or "certified" ... Bruce was never Authorized or Certified to teach Wing Chun or Kung Fu. He himself never had a high "Rank" that is why he was never an advocate of rank. HOWEVER, if you are planning to learn JKD find someone with some Lineage to Bruce, and learn from them. Don't just train with someone using the JKD name and they really haven't a clue what they are teaching. Ive personally trained with Dan Inosanto, Larry Hartsell and Jessie Glover. And many 2nd Gen students like Ron Balicki, Hock Hochheim, Gary Dill, Eugene Amada and many others. There are many of Bruce's students who were amazing martial artist who taught JKD or a Version of JKD. Wing Chun and JKD are meant to be Evolving Martial Arts, its their nature. You must understand their CORE techniques to understand JKD.

You are right, jkd is not just MMA. But I think when so many people have spent time training under these names only recently, I have to wonder for how long, a couple of hours or days? I was so lucky to start JKD less than a decade after BL died and know the real training. I'm not seeing it now.

This is one of those things where you can’t have it both ways. Is it simple, direct and effective? It should not be overly difficult to learn and once learned should not be that difficult to teach. If it is difficult to learn and takes an extraordinary amount of time to be able to teach then it is demonstrably not simple. You can get someone in the proper stance, get them using the strong lead and start them sparring in a single class. After a few months of sparring, with proper correction and supplemental drills, you should have developed a core competency. Fighting is a physical skill, it should be learned the same way other physical skills are learned like skiing, bike riding, swimming, roller skating. They should be learned by doing the activity. If you are at a fighting academy and they are getting too deep into the weeds with philosophy, theory, static or cooperative drills and are doing other things to extend or draw out the learning curve you should go somewhere else. I’ve always thought of JKD as Bruce’s way of saying cut the BS, spar and find out what really works. It’s not a recipe for cold fusion technology.

It's screwed up today precisely because you have this idea of sparring on day 1. Every move had to be learned with strict form and slowly and balance. Blocks FIRST, then footwork, then kicks, and punches. Strict form first and then speed up and spar. You don't have the control to only tag or pull punches on day 1. That's why today it's like yoga. A yogi can sit in full lotus as just the basic and meditating for hours. Today it's women in lycra putting a pile of SUV keys, latte cup, sunglasses and switched on cellphone beside their mat and making up easy stretches called 'downward dog' with loud music at fitness central. Sloppy drills and slomo techniques passing for learning martial arts are just feel good light exercise. That's why all the fighting age guys go do Muay Thai and BJJ where u have to get tested. Nothing wrong with little kids and girls and grandma learning, but when that's more than half the class it's lost.

Dan Inosanto is one of the big gest frau dst ers in martial arts. His "as many arts as possible" (his words). Was designed to keep students coming in paying him money. Sc s ammer.
