I'll say it again. This lad is one of, if not, the best instructors on the circuit. Explained so simply and minimal things to remember. Very very good. Tony Perrin.

Late to the party but great info JKM. I have the opposite issue where my long irons are fairly solid but struggle with the 3 hybrid (overall contact and inconsistent ball path). Your tip with trying to still hit down on the hybrids and allowing the anatomy of the club face do the work is spot on.

Great lesson! love the channel...I have a habit of picking my irons clean off the turf ( I need to force myself to take a divot )...I get a lot more consistent distance and stronger ball flight with my 5 hybrid ...it is so much easier to hit my 175 to 180 target. I will use the same advice for long irons as my 6iron (hit down a bit to take a divot) because sometimes it goes the same distance as my 7iron with the way I hit it currently...I need to constantly remind myself that hitting down lets the club hit the sweet spot of the club instead of the bottom of the club.

Enjoyed those tips how fast was your club head speed, and at what speed should you give up on the 3 iron thanks
@JKMGolf Жыл бұрын
My driver club speed is 120-123 on average. I think if your speed is not high enough to hit your 7iron at least 160 yards then it will be difficult to get a 3 iron in the air enough

I just completed my first year of golf, in the past week....and yes, my biggest problem with with long irons and hybrid or 7 wood. For some reason, I have a mental block about hitting them....and tend to not come through the swing....as I do in my practice swing. Very frustrating....so doing my best to get through it. I seem to hit just fine with any wedge...down to about 7 or 8 iron. I'm thinking one of my issues....other than the mental part...is that I need to move the ball forward...and make sure I bring my trail shoulder down and through....while bringing the club inside on downswing.

Great explanation! Do you believe hybrids are helping amateurs in general? Have you considered to do a video comparing the use of a hybrid vs fairway woods? Hitting the 3 wood for example, is the most difficult for me. Thanks for the great videos!
@JKMGolf Жыл бұрын
I do believe hybrids help because the way it is designed helps launch the ball higher. The reason a 3-wood is difficult for most amateurs is because the lack of loft on the club. Unless you swing the club fast enough it will be difficult to launch the ball high enough to take advantage of the club. You may find your hybrid go further than your 3 wood at times and that is because the launch with the hybrid is higher

Is there any change in ball position or swing technique when hitting short iron hybrids (e.g. 7. 8, 9, PW)?
@suivzmoi3 жыл бұрын
not many coaches out there actually know that all clubs off the deck should be swung with negative attack angle at contact..it's proven in the data of all the tour players. kudos for pointing that out. i just wanted to ask, as the title mentions iron vs hybrid swing; is there actually a difference in the swing?

Great detailed explanation Jonathan! I struggled with my 18 degree hibrid.. it tends to somewhat open at impact so the ball will fly straight 5 - 10 degree to the right. Ball position slightly forward at stand. Any suggestions?

Do they not have outdoor driving ranges in Singapore?
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
They do but not off the grass and it’s been really hectic at the ranges so there isn’t much space to do filming. They even have restrictions where they block every other hitting bay so people don’t get too close.
@richie82403 жыл бұрын
5 iron comes-out far too low and barely further than my 6. Same loft hybrid is up and flying and almost doubles the distance gap from 7 to 6 and now from 6 to hybrid. Never try a 5 iron to the green - it will bounce right off the back. Hybrid descends down and holds. And the added advantage it is my go-to club under trees for a pop-out back into the fairway. No brainer!

Would a windy day influence your decision to put the 3-iron in your bag instead of the hybrid?
@JKMGolf2 жыл бұрын
That is more personal preference and based on the individuals game. For me I use a 2 iron because a hybrid spins a lot and launches too high for me

Hi! I really like your content, but I could not disagree more with this videos message. I think it’s completely the opposite. A long iron is the safety zone, and I’m by no means a good long-ironplayer. I tend to hit all my clubs a bit thin. If I do that with a 3iron It just flies low and the carry and total distance is punished. With a hybrid though, there is always the change of topping the ball like 20 meters. I do have hybrid in the bag but every time I think of hitting it id rather go with 4-iron because I’m afraid of the topped shot that is so devastating for the score.
@suivzmoi3 жыл бұрын
i suck at hybrids therefore this video is wrong
@3spressoShot3 жыл бұрын
You can disagree but you are wrong. A miss hit on a hybrid will carry longer than a miss hit on an iron
@infriad3 жыл бұрын
@@3spressoShot ofc they will! But that does not mean hybrids are easier to hit in general. Topping a longiron is far less likely than with a hybrid.
@3spressoShot3 жыл бұрын
@@infriad yea but a fat or thin shot happens much more often than topping. And in that the hybrid rules. If you hit fat on a hybrid it will bounce off the ground and still make decent contact with a ball. A long iron will just become a shovel
