I know you probably know this but if you use stainless steel for your canister it will never stick to your Damascus. I know its more expensive but it sure does save alot of time and effort. I love watching your videos. It sends me in different directions and new ideas. Thank you!

it will stick unless you get an oxide on it first

What if you put the tubing directly in the Forge and develop Forge scale and then assemble the canister. would that keep it from sticking?

I’ve recently found your channel, and watched several of your videos. I don’t mean to ask a question you’ve already covered but I haven’t heard you say and I’d like to know where to buy 80CrV2 and other metals for forging knives? Im having a difficult time finding a reliable source for metal. I’m new to forging and using what I got and will add to my tools as I can.

Hey Jason! Let me start with I love your videos and want to become a knife smith myself! Iv been following you for sometime now and I have written before in your previous video asking for some help or advise about tools, but I realised I formulated myself poorly! My question is following reguarding knife smithing. What kind of Anvil should I look out for - there are houndreds of different designs and waights and sizes and they are practical in different ways - But not all of them are practical for knife smithing. Hammers - again hundreds of them out there, what shapes would I need for smithing - Im aware I need multible hammers because of hammering bebles and such - what should I concider before purchusing a hammer - also material the hammer is made of would be great! Grinders - there are many different grinders out there, shapes and sizes - anything I should concider or does anything go? Power hammers - now thisone iv been looking for alot myself and Im confused - they have different power and hitting ranges so for a beginner I guess a small one would do - But my dream is to craft Damascus in 1095 steel or stainless steel thats a bit harder from my understanding (I know i wont start with damascus the first thing I do, But i want to get the right stuff so I can jump on it when Im ready) - what power should I look for and what kind of heads should I concider for blade smithing. Forge - what forge construct would be best? Are there any other tools I missed that I should concider getting that would shorten my learning curb! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Keep up this great content - I realy enjoy your movies! Greetings from Sweden!

Cool pattern Got sort of a technical question, structurally what is the difference between folding the steel like in Katanas, and Damascus steel where you cut and stack the steel? Which is better? Thanks in advance
@huntingsgr84 жыл бұрын
Structurally, not much. Cutting and stacking is a more expedient way of increasing your layer count, while giving you a chance to grind clean all of your mating surfaces, and causing less pattern distortion than folding, which if you're doing any sort of intricate pattern is essential. Folding is primarily a steel refinement method. Check out some videos on refining bloom steel, Walter Sorrels, and Joey Van Der Steig have videos on it.
