It’s hilarious how Cap decides that the DCU must be a dystopian hellhole just because the citizens are actually grateful towards the heroes. Says something about the citizens in Marvel I guess. Also, Supes has no room to talk down to the Avengers about trying hard enough to protect people considering how often cities, countries, and even the timeline itself gets destroyed in DC.
@hitomisalazar40733 ай бұрын
I always figured it was because of figures like Doctor Doom. Who's people love him and build statues to him and such like that. And is an out and out villain really to everyone not Latverian. Not a lot of Marvel Heroes getting like "The Fantastic Four Museum" opened in their honor. Unlike in the MCU where they had things like a Captain America Museum scene and such. While Superman's point make sense when you think of things like "What's so Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" where his entire point is that with their abilities and cleverness and determination DC heroes don't have to result to brutal retribution and "Avenging". That they can save the day with minimal harm. Or as Justice League Unlimited showed off in Patriot Act (Great Episode), the DC Heroes put saving civilians over fighting General Eiling over and over. Because that's what heroes do there. Which... isn't necessarily the case in Marvel.

I always thought the pissing match between DC and Marvel was… y'know, fandom stuff, instead of actual editorial stuff. That surprises me a lot, actually; these guys really know they could just… get more money if they were amiable and worked together from time to time, right? The comic industry does weird things sometimes. Still, this is a REALLY fun crossover from what I heard so far! I enjoyed the interactions between the heroes, you can see why the characters were distrustful and weirded out at first… and NGL, when I think of heroes talking things out I would not have pointed to Cap. and Batman and gone "yeah, those two, they are the ones who are gonna sort it out together". Like, really. …Very unexpected. Another commented called it, but Superman did sound a lot like Superboy "EVERYTHING WAS BETTER ON M Y EARTH!" Prime, though this actually makes sense and is far less annoying. He should take notes on how to not be insufferable. …My favorite moment is Batman and Captain America bonding over their lost partners though. I started enjoying the DCU before getting into comics as a Robin fan, I started the comics as a Robin fan, and it stands the same to this day goddamnit >:"(

You know, I get Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver finding the idea of DC's heroes being so venerated a little weird, what with all the mutant hate they got back home, but I don't think it quite works with the rest of the Avengers. It's like they couldn't think of something wrong with the DC Universe like they could with the Marvel Universe. Even then, I feel like they could have put a little more effort into why the Avengers would have similar salt levels to the Justice League. Could have them discover someone like Amanda Waller or Mr. Bones and say that their government is more corrupt. Could point out half the stupid decisions the Guardians of the Universe make and have them get mad at their pretentiousness. Could show Cap a picture of when Superman had a mullet.
@BoulderPunchPodcast16 жыл бұрын
Patrick Stewart yeah I get what they were going for, but pretty much all the Marvel heroes in that scene with the exception of those two should already be used to this kind of praise. Well to be fair, the muggles in Marvel are dicks. They're not above going to the Avengers mansion and destroy property because a senator said they suck (in the Kree-Skrull war). And this was before the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are Magneto's kids in canon. They're just shocked DC was a lot more friendly.
@PosthumanHeresy4 жыл бұрын
As corrupt as DC Earth is, it's not like Marvel is any better on that front. I think they were extremely over the top about it, but I get why the Avengers would be so unnerved seeing the level of hero worship on DC's Earth. It's such a culture shock, and they're so used to supervillains and evil alternate everythings that of course their first reaction would be "wait, did these guys take over the world?" It's just stupid as hell that they would keep that mindset for more than a few minutes, since they should have pretty quickly realized that the civilians weren't acting like Latvarian citizens meeting Dr. Doom.
@skibobshipoddlypop3 жыл бұрын
It's not really the Avengers though, Quicksilver and Hawkeye are immediately a little envious, Quicksilver maybe more so due to the major prominence of the Flash in his universe compared to him as a lesser hero, but only Superman and Captain America are depicted as extremely salty, and unjustifiably so. Thor's pissed, but as he points out, they're strangers who invade their realm to steal cosmic artifacts and are talking mess, only Cap is freaking out about them being fascist while everyone is like "Uh, okay Steve, why don't you just cool off a bit"
@hitomisalazar40733 жыл бұрын
Well it makes sense as a conflict to me. Like (well outside the MCU where they actually do this), I can't think of a case where they have a museum venerating super heroes in Marvel. Probably is that I'm not aware of off the top of my head, I'm sure. But it's not a big thing. Like there isn't a "Captain America Day" in Marvel so much. But there is "We have turned the day of Superman's Death into a global holiday of mourning" and "We literally built a massive museum dedicated to The Flash" and such. In Marvel's earth their big well known news outfit of The Daily Bugle rages about vigilantes being the scum of the earth from Spider-man to Daredevil. In DC the Daily Planet talks about how Superman is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's a very different sort of public view. Nevermind that a lot of Marvel's big villains as well are megalomaniac asshats who seem to think "Because I have Superpowers I'm better and should rule over the Earth". Heck the sort of veneration DC heroes get on the regular does happen in Marvel... with villains. Like Dr. Doom in Latveria. Or Namor in Atlantis. It'd probably make a lot of sense to see massive statues to a cape, the object hero worship, etc, and draw that Dr. Doom parallel over thinking: "They must be a swell guy" in their home world context.

+Ian R. Nava Huber It may change. The only compagny crossover who happe in the 2010's was Attack on Titan vs Marvel and Iron man meet space brother, (the first one is notorious crap and the second is pretty dificult to find.) and this two crossover happen thank to Cebulski who know rules marvel. So prepar to see more Marvel intercompagny crossover in the near futur.

You know, come to think of it, in spite of DC not crossing over with Marvel since, IDW has done crossovers with both DC and Marvel, would be funny if they were the ones to somehow bring the two together in some sort of three way crossover. Crossovers between independent properties (as in stuff not part of or spun off of the same main brand like pretty much everything Marvel and DC currently do) do seem to be their thing more than any other American comic publisher right now after all (and yet, there has still yet to be a proper My Little Pony crossover with anything, random references and covers of course notwithstanding) .

He would really help turn it around though, although something tells me Doctor Doom would kill him pretty fast. While Lex has crazy intellect and an unrivaled ego, Doctor Doom wouldn't ever compare himself to Superman and need to top him, he's outraged to not be more powerful than whatever the most powerful thing he knows about it at any given time. He'd somehow suck Superman's life from him without ever thinking it an achievement

Let me try something: A while back, I started going on about how nice it'd be to get a film adaptation of Red Son. And wouldn't you know it, WB just happened to announce one was in the works a couple months later. Probably a coincidence, but in the spirit of Honest Trailers somehow accurately calling the deaths of TWO major Game of Thrones characters in a row, let me try it again: I'd really, REALLY like an animated movie made based on this comic. Preferably with the EMH and JL cartoons's casts.

I've long maintained that this story was the swan song for good comics in the modern era. 1998-2004 was a great time to be a fan of the big two. Both companies had begun to phase out the excess and poor decisions influenced by the speculator boom. Heroes Return, JLA, JMS Spider-Man, LEX - 2000, Johns on Flash, Waid on FF, Jimenez and Rucka on Wonder Woman, Jim Lee Batman, Cassandra as Batgirl, also after 2000 there wasn't a reluctance on companywide crossovers! There was a lot to love about this era, and this mega crossover is fun, it has the classic superhero storytelling that frankly is missing once we get to Identity Crisis in DC and Disassembled at MArvel. Stories became too dark and gritty and especially at DC as you've covered relying on nostalgia that wasn't needed (ressurection of Wally and Hal, and a insistence to punish their heroes, like Roy Harper losing his child and going insane, and we got pointless event and crossover comics. Sure there were some good stories to come from Marvel and DC but as a whole, nothing comes to as epic, fun and exciting as anything that was written and drawn for JLA/Avengers.
@sarafontanini70516 жыл бұрын
it probably comes up in part 2, but I'm sure I remember it being mentioned somewhere in a book I read once about this storyline having an AWESOME description of Galactus' throne with it being made from dead Galactus' or something. Very Lovecraftian, almost, very chilling, very cool. if accurate, this detail alone makes the entire crossover worth it to me.

Another favorite episode of mine. Yeah, for some reason, probably just my love for superheroes in general, I just love these reviews for both Mavel and DC stories. Love the brawls and what brings these two universes together. That it's all just a game that two cosmic elders are engaged in. It's truly an epic battle and I think my favorite part of ALL of this it how Captain America and Batman overcome their differences and work together to find out what's going on. It's just so damn fun!!!
