I believe there is a significant improvement in noise cancellation compared to the first generation.

Definitely. When it comes to real world noises though it's not as good vs audio being played on a speaker, just as a heads up. We had a test with a co-worker talking but the footage got lost :(

There's no way to turn on or off the mic noise cancellation. It's built into the mic and the performance varies depending on which noises you're around and how loud the noise is. You could conisder adding neep.com microphone noise canceling software to give the best noise suppression possible.

We didn't experience this, so it could be defective. We'd recommend contacting JLab to get a warranty replacement.
