JLB Cheetah - How To Reprogram A HW SC8 RTR 120a ESC!!! Without Using a Program Card/Program device

Hey what’s sup guys, in this video I’ll be reprogramming a HW EZRUN SC8 RTR 120a ESC without using a program card or programming device. This ESC has a built in programming button along side the power button which makes reprogramming fast any easy. This can be done anywhere and anytime. Hi RC Teng, This video helped alot You're right, if you're not paying attention you can get hurt. Before I program or calibrate, I turn the knob up on the transmitter without toughing the throttle. The car reverse on its own by itself and it hit my leg. Thanks to your video I programmed it.

Thanks that really explains it. Earlier I downloaded EzRun-WP-SC8 manual and it shows more items (12) than the Cheetah ESC actually supports (5). So base on the manual you have it seems that the Cheetah version only support the first 5 of the WP-SC8 configurations

And I totally agree that the default cut off voltage is too low (that's the main reason I want to reprogram the ESC). I set it to 3.4v just for the peace of mind. Early days I have puffed quite a few batteries by just extending a little bit of play time. Not quite worth it.

I had a lot of problems with the bearings in the cheetah I replaced every one of them in and out wheels I just can't believe they didn't go stronger with a bigger bearing to hold up this much torque

Hi RC Teng, When I calibrate my JLB Cheetah.. On my dumborc remote, as for the throttle... do I put it to 100% or put it all the way down and for the breaking, where should I have the percentage for that, because right now my brakes are too strong.

Hi there. Thanks for this tutorial. My 21101 doesn't brake really hard when going forward (when going backwards it brakes much better). Is this normal standard? Can this be fixed with the programming?

Yeah. Reprogram your brakes to the next level and see if it brakes harder.

Great tutorial on how to reprogram the esc, 2 questions, does the start mode(punch) increase the overall top speed of the car or it just has better acceleration? And how do u feel it at maximum punch? Is it controllable still ? Im also thinking about reprogramming my esc thanks

Ok so punch power only increase and decrease the trigger throw. Punch power is the adjustment to how short you want the trigger to be for example, full throttle is the trigger all the pressed correct, with punch power you can adjust the trigger to have full throttle at half way so you don’t have to press the trigger all the way. I thought it would increase the speed and power but after adjusting it so many times I find that all it does is adjust your trigger to full throttle with a short throw instead of fully pressing the trigger. At max punch, it’s hard to control because your at full throttle real fast where normal setting takes time to get to full throttle depending on how hard you press the trigger. On max punch I press the trigger half way and I’m in full throttle which makes the truck spin out of control and go wild. It’s best to have your punch at level 6 or 7 so you can gradually get into full throttle instead of instant full throttle. Hope that explaination make sense.

It could be the receiver or the steering servo going bad. Check each one by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

I feel all rc car should have a heat sink with a fan. Especially the JLB. I’m not sure why they didn’t include it with the JLB because sometimes I get overheating issues when the motor gets too hot.

@@ItsRCTeng Thank you. I was thinking the same thing. Here's what's funny.The other day I ran my JLB car and it was over 83 degrees. It was pretty hot. So I started off where I live, then I went on the street, then I ran in on grass[just a little] and I ended up in a grocery store parking lot. It had to be over 25 minutes at 75-80 throttle. When the battery died down.. I check to see if it was hot and amazingly it was not. So now I'm puzzled if I should purchase a heatsink. What do you think? If so what kind that would fit my motor.

Once you put enough packs through it, its going to start to get hotter and hotter as it wear down. my motor been running for over 4 years on constant 3s power. I need to upgrade my motor soon, I can feel it starting to go into grampa mode.

I don’t know about the quicrun but this ezrun sc8 120a is really good. I can do 4s without any overheating issues. Easy to program too with the button near the power switch.

Help! Lent my 11101 to my buddy last night. He complained that the braking wasn't sufficient. I looked at it this morning and tried to set up the ESC using this beep method ( which has worked perfectly in the past) Okay, I find that I get no beeps when starting the procedure, plus I only have rear wheel drive now. What happened???

Sounds like you have a strip diff gear at the front which is normal due to all the wheelies this truck does. You can either replace the diff gear or replace the entire diff which I would do cause pretty cheap to replace the whole diff then to waste time taking it apart just to change the main gear in the diff. For the ESC, try unplugging the steering servo from the receiver and start it up. If it beeps and start up normal without the servo plugged in, then it’s your servo causing issues for the receiver and esc. If it still don’t beep or start up normally then your esc needs to be replaced. Also, don’t run 4s it will destroy your esc faster then 2s and 3s even though it can handle 4s.

Removal of the servo leads from the ESC on start-up made no difference. But, the car still operates with all the previously programmed parameters, so I will just leave it be for now and save some coin. I'll wait until it self destructs before operating on it. Thanks for your input...

17:20 Alright, I pulled the guts apart only to find that the white wire from the ESC was broken. I soldered it back together, secured it with some heat shrink, and voila, success. Works like a charm now...😊

What ESC is it? Is it the 120a sc8-rtr? Look like you need to reprogram the start/drive mode on the ESC. Check out my videos on how to calibrate and how to reprogram the ESC. Hope that helps👍

I' just bought a new gens ace battery for my cheetah and the manual says not to discharge it below 3.2v. As far as i know this esc has lvc at 3.0v. Should i change it to 3.2 or keep it at 3v ?

Change it to 3.4v to be safe. If the manual say don’t go below 3.2v then don’t go below 3.2v. It’s Better to be safe then to damage a lipo and end up spending more money on new lipos. All of my esc is program to cut off at 3.4v.

Yes but it’s not noticeable. It’s all in how much Mah you have on your battery that counts as run time.

😂 the cogging is usually cause by the radio system. If the controller is too close to the receiver/car it starts cogging. Also, with the cheap quality radio system that comes with the car also has some interference with the signal causing it to cog. The dumbo setup I have is much better then stock but still on the cheap side which still cogs 😕. My advice is to upgrade the entire radio system which you would have to spend more money for the quality 😕.

Both brands is super good 👍. Yeah that’s right, brushless systems will always have cogging issues. Sensored system works good too but I never tired so I can’t say it won’t cog.

Recalibrate the ESC. I have a video on how to recalibrate the ESC. Also, check your dual rates on the controller. Your rates for throttle and steering should be at %100 on the controller. Replacement ESC always have to be calibrated before use.

In order to reset back to factory settings you would have to reprogram back to the original settings using the chart shown in the user manual. I wish there was a reset button but once you mess with the programming you would have to program the settings manually back to factory settings.

Lol I know exactly what you mean and what your going through. Everytime you hook up the dumbo to a different esc, most likely this issue will happen because the radio system don’t automatically recognize the ESC that it’s originally setup too. It’s an easy fix, all you have to do is recalibrate the radio system to the new esc or another esc. Once you have recalibrate it, the radio system will recognize it even after you take it off or put it back to the car. Check out my JLB cheetah gen1 playlist or look up how to recalibrate esc. Dude I also forgot to mention 1 last thing. Check to see if you put the wire in the right slot. You might have steering in channel 2 and throttle in channel 1. Steering will always be in channel 1 and throttle/esc will always be in channel 2. It’s small misplacing of the plugs which tends to confuse people when really all it is, is the plugs being in the wrong slot of the receiver. Check that before doing any type of calibration of the esc. 👍

You need to program the running mode. This esc had 3 run mode. 1.Forward with brake, 2.Forward/Reverse with brake, 3.Forward and Reverse with no brake.
