I started using JLF in my garden last year. I live in Maryland and our soil is red clay, very little topsoil in my suburban setting and I've noticed a huge improvement after using it, compost/leaf mold in the quality of my native soil. It's full of various organisms and insects, earthworms. Perhaps it's my imagination but the day after application my plants simply look more vibrant, upright, and more full. I no longer use store bought fertilizer and I plan to incorporate more deep mulch principles this season. And oddly enough the odor doesn't bother me in the slightest because I now associate it with natural cycling of matter and healthy plants.

Does your JLF have a very strong spoiled smell? it's normal?
@Stoiccappy8 ай бұрын
@@gersooonn7452 Yes it's pretty strong in the buckets but once I've diluted and applied to the garden beds it goes away in a few minutes. JLF is based on putrefaction as opposed to fermentation so it has more of a "poopy" smell.

Did you rinse the salt off the seaweed first ? Some do, some don’t; I’m going to test both to see the difference

@@dnawormcastings Excellent! I love making seaweed JLF.. It breaks down fast with all the aquatic microorganisms..Thank you.
@rogueregenerativeagriculture3 ай бұрын
@@freewillchoice8052 no need to rise the seaweed first. Sea salt will be diluted with fresh water in the JLF and break down into plant available minerals that will be an added bonus..

What about dumping JLF on a big pile of wood chips to break them down into good compost faster? Does it need to be inoculated first

JMS would be better for inoculation

I use Jlf, I very have had it for a year ,my question is can I make a compost tea ? Use my bubbler? And thanks for sharing your knowledge! I just ran across your video
@rogueregenerativeagriculture5 ай бұрын
@@morrisclyburn7105 I wouldn’t recommend adding JLF into compost tea. The presence of anerobic microorganisms might effect the aerated aerobic microorganisms your brewing in a compost tea. You could apply both at different times for a diversity of microbes 🦠 in your soil.

does this method destroy the weed seeds ? I don't want my garden to be infested with unwanted weeds

I wondered this as well but then I also wondered if it is just free re-seeding for future fertilizer? haha.

I’m just saying use caution in what your culturing, w/ the proper methods and a large diversity of healthy microbes you’ll be fine..

Jadam says bad smell equal sweet taste. Also Korean farmers say that to. Bad smell does not indicate bad fertilizer that’s western big Agricultural myth they use to keep us as customers. But the bad smell can be stopped with ferments if it bothers you to much. The Jadam book mentions all this I said above

JLF is for the soil only, not the plant and its leaves. JMS is for the whole plant and soil.
@rogueregenerativeagriculture Жыл бұрын
This was not a foliar application or I would have used an atomizer. This was a soil drench that I happened to spray a few leaves (no dangers there ) and made it to the soil where I was primarily drenching. JLF is best used in conjunction w/ other inputs, not used alone. Thanks for your feedback.
