I remember in the early comics and file cards how they were all Vietnam veterans. But after the comics ran long enough, Vietnam had to be changed to "an unspecified armed conflict somewhere in Southeast Asia" so they could continue the storylines set in present day without having to age the characters. Considering there is currently an ongoing series set in modern day, that would make the original Joes around 70 years old.

As a young child growing up in the 80s I only managed to collect a few of these GI Joe comics but after watching several of your GI Joe videos, I feel compelled to go back and collect these early Joe comics. Baroness's brother served with Snake-eyes and she blames Snake-eyes for her brother's death. That was really good, well put together, Thank You! I grew up on comics and cartoons, playing army in the woods and had alot of the toy GI Joes... I would spend hours after school, building tree forts , and dressing up in all black like a Ninja 🥷 like Snake Eyes... when I was about 6 years old, I had my first Bigfoot sighting... after being told there's no such thing, I had continued growing up thinking it's just some playful imagination, that these Shadow People appeared running around me , what I thought were Ninjas in those woods... It wasn't until yet again another incredible sighting of a Bigfoot in 2016 after seeing a Bald Eagle fly at midnight overtop our heads following the Bigfoot . At that time science had not yet discovered that Bald Eagles with their excellent eye sight could actually see well enough to fly at night under certain conditions. I began to research Bigfoot and discovered many more interesting things about them and their metaphysical abilities which we have also. I had always drawn my own inspiration from Snake Eyes character, and even owned a fully automatic UZI when I was 22 years old. I trained in various martial arts, and had even been at the center of a CIA investigation that included my childhood. When later I was told they knew things I didn't even know about myself, things I'd since forgotten even. In many ways I emulated the Snake Eyes character... teaching myself about every kind of small arms weapons. Even a compliment from Monte LeClair Navy S.E.A.L. sniper who asked "What are you some kind of a "Gun God!" lol. I always loved all things military even though I was never in any service. My love was to help those who served and create the best small arms ideas for Knight Armament Company, where I came up with their company slogan "When your life is on the line... Only the Finest will do... I think alot of my hobbies and interests grew up around those comic book heroes. Looking back I can see how certain aspects have contributed to who I am today.

This is from my own perspective; something that would be worth a real background deep dive into the character development of the man behind the mask: has anyone else ever considered why it was so important for Snake Eyes to prove he was the best? Read this carefully and think about it ... if you are friends with someone, their 'war buddy' "Brother" from the Vietnam Conflict; what kind of true friend would go to the other man's home and disrespect him in front of his own family!?! Tommy Arashikage is the soul heir, not the only heir, the heart and blood, soul heir, of the Arashikage Clan! Within the clan he is viewed as the top of the young leadership, he is the youth and future hope of the clan's leadership for years to come. He should be the best of the best, better than all the rest. So why doesn't Snake Eyes be a true friend and "take a knee" and allow Tommy to respectfully win the duels? Why is it so important to Snake Eyes to prove he is the best to the extent that he makes the clan's future leadership, his own "Brother" from Vietnam, seem weak in front of his own clan and family?! Can you imagine, that this is why Storm Shadow, Tommy Arashikage, says to Snake Eyes: "Hello Brother" every time they meet in combat; as if to say, you were my "Brother" in the Vietnam Conflict/War and you Snake Eyes betrayed me!! With my own imagination I feel like the seeming unending animosity between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes is because Snake Eyes dishonored Tommy and shamefully embarrassed him in front of his own family's clan of ninja warriors; causing a lot of Arashikage Ninjas to question Storm Shadow's ability to lead them! Throughout the storylines we do see the Red Ninjas often acting independent of Storm Shadow; showing that in fact his own Arashikage Warriors do not honor him as their sacred leader of the clan! This would cause tremendous bitterness within Tommy, over why his 'buddy' from Vietnam would be so disrespectful to him. What would you think if the same happened to you? Friendship would dissolve into bitterness, and in Storm Shadow it would turn to violent hatred of Snake Eyes! Yet, however; proving his own honor and loyalty, Storm Shadow knows Snake Eyes real name: because he would since they first met in Vietnam. Yet, Storm Shadow has never told anyone what Snake Eyes real name is; since the moment that they both saw each others' Arashikage tattoos, they have both known who they really are. But, let's be honest, the first time they got into a challenge of strength and skill; they knew instantly who was who, because real warriors recognize another great warrior's fighting style instantly! See, things like this should be deeply explored in a deep dive drama or action movie background story. I would like to hear the details and see the dynamics between the two men. What really happened?! How did Snake Eyes learn from it all ... because when facing Scarlett for the first time in G.I. Joe, Snake Eyes "takes a knee" and lets her win the challenges! It's as if the original story holds all of the clues and details of something that was never thought deeply into. That could, perhaps, be why Snake Eyes allows Scarlett to be victorious over him?! It's as if he has learned; it's not worth shaming someone else, and losing a dear friend, just to prove he's the best. It's as if he has learned; being the best, means, you don't need to prove it to anyone - you are what you are: others' opinions of you, don't matter at all. All of this development in his experiences and character development may be what culminates to cause Snake Eyes to risk it all to save Scarlett; because he's lost so much, he's lost one of his best friends ever, when he didn't make the personal sacrifice for him. Snake Eyes didn't "take a knee" to preserve Tommy's honor and integrity as a skilled warrior in front of his clan and family; and as a result Tommy Arashikage became Cobra's Storm Shadow. So when Scarlett needs him the most; he'd rather die than have to live with the loss of another dear friend. So, he sacrifices himself for Scarlett's benefit; but, ends up surviving too! When you begin putting some imaginative pieces together. You begin to see so much to the Snake Eyes of G.I. Joe. So much of his character starts to make sense! He's learned to put others before himself. He's learned, the best of the best, don't brag about being the best; they just do what is necessary when it is necessary to protect those they care about most. I feel like all of that is what leads Snake Eyes to try to somehow reconcile with Tommy; and eventually, he has that opportunity in the comics! When you think about all of that, it really starts to fill-in the overall story!

Snake-Eyes is certainly the ‘breakout character of G. I. Joe, much like Mr. Spock was for Star Trek. In terms of the comics, it’s a shame his ninja ties to Storm-Shadow was overplayed during the Marvel run; and in the cartoons, he was given short shrift; not only was his being a ninja and ties to Storm Shadow Ignored, with viewers made to believe that the likes of Spirit or, worse, Quick Kick can take on Storm-Shadow, but his relationship with Scarlett was likewise ditched, and fans were given the Double Lie that Duke was an item with Scarlett and that he was the ‘leader’ of G. I. Joe; preposterous notions that Larry Hama never once agreed with. And in the Movie, the fact that SE recruited Jinx for the team was outright disregarded. Marvel’s Snake-Eyes the Origin (G. I. Joe #s 26-27) were far more canon than DDP’s Snake-Eyes: Declassified, which was a hodgepodge of both errors and lies. Samples? - Snake Eyes claimed he knows Jeet Kun Do- the Way of the Intercepting Fist, the martial art developed by Bruce Lee- except its very highly unlikely that he would teach it to westerners. - Cobra Commander conning SE into being his partner. Now, compare & contrast the hexagram on Prof. Onihashi’s residence in G. I. Joe #84 to that in G. I. Joe Declassified; also, SE was only seen using a standard katana in Snake-Eyes: the Origin. In DDP’s unmissed and unlamented miniseries, he suddenly has the ‘Sword of Snake Eyes’ , an item hawked in ads. Plus, check Scarlett’s mufti attire in G. I. Joe #27 to what she’s seen wearing in Snake-Eyes Declassified #6. One aspect of Snake Eyes’ backstory that was never revealed officially as canon (meaning not written by Larry Hama) was his ties to the CIA. Note that on the cover of G. I. Joe #26, SE’s Dept of Defense file clearly has a US MAC-V-SOG ID with the Serial Number US527- , indicating he is in Uncle Sam’s service in the CIA, not the US Army per se. G. I. Joe #94 has him with Stalker and Storm-Shadow reporting at 666 Rue Pasteur Street in Saigon, the ‘open’ address of the US Army Studies & Observation/Military Assistance Group.* And in G. I. Joe #43’s Postbox the Pit!, Larry Hama answered an LoC, noting that: “Snake-Eyes’ file with MAC-SOG is sealed for twenty years. Spec Ops Spooks need covers. Some of them use US A-G unauthorized gear. Dig?” * The book the Raid , which details the Son Tay Raid of 1970 revealed that the CIA’s Studies and Observation Group really referred to their Special Operations Group, essentially the O. S. S. (Office of Strategic Services) for Southeast Asia. Had G. I. Joe been part of the Marvel Universe, he and Nick Fury may have known each other.

Love the GOAT American Shinobi himself. His original comic origin is the best version and suits him way better. Me being a martial arts fan all my life, I'd give Snake Eyes Shorin-Ryu Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Silat, Savate, Muay Thai, Kobudo, Iaido, Bojutsu, Kenjutsu, Shurikenjutsu and Ninjutsu. Tunnel Rat? Wing Chun , boxing, Capoeira, Escrima, Jeet Kune Do, Shotokan Karate, Hapkido, Krav Maga, BJJ, and Wushu(Nanquan, Jian, Dao, Fanziquan, eagle claw). And Storm Shadow Uechi-Ryu Karate, Taido, Iaido, Tang Soo Do, Hwa Rang Do, Taekwondo, Kali, Aki-jujutsu , Kenjutsu , Shurikenjutsu, Krav Maga and Ninjutsu.

Yes. He has always been white. I have no idea who came up with the idea of race swapping him. Not right 😡 Been a Snake Eyes fan ever since the 80's.

Marvel should go after G.I. Joe and make movies
@DaleCoreySanford2 жыл бұрын
Why the want to make him as unrecognizable from the source materiel as the MCU?
@jjmuse752 жыл бұрын
Definitely not because Disney owns Marvel & it would get watered down to much. They should just get a serious writer like Taylor Sheridan & use the marvel philosophy & make stand-alone Joe movies that connect to a larger “universe”. Do it with Netflix so they can do whatever they want.
@T-Bechilln2 жыл бұрын
@@jjmuse75 I can see where you coming from with that
@jjmuse752 жыл бұрын
@@T-Bechilln Yeah man & they’re so many Joes that they don’t have to try to fit them all into one movie. Some of the movies could just focus on a group of Joes. Some could even be Cobra movies with the Joes secondary. A Zartan movie would be the 💩

I know most wanted a canon movie with Snake Eyes and I understand it. Plus the movie was not top notch level. With that being said I would not want a canon Snake Eyes movie, it is too intense too dramatic, too extended, too repetitive and even though these are the exact reasons he became a symbol, as a new movie it would bog down. Now was that late movie THE Snake Eyes movie we needed? Not fully and I hope they make more! Also I like the asian switch, too many white blonde main characters.

Booooooo your whole comment sucked. Snake eyes is a white guy with a burnt face end of story, enough of this bs ass race swapping crap. Im hispanic mexican and african american im sick of this bs.

@ Comments are opinions, by definition we are free to have them. The movie was bad but if somebody liked it I aint gonna attack them. That would suck way more than the movie.

Ok so right at the end he says Snake-Eyes died and someone else took up the mantel. Is that why he's an Asian guy in the movie? (Which I refuse to see.)
@44excalibur2 жыл бұрын
No one knows why Hama chose to kill off Snake Eyes in the new G.I. Joe revival series. Making Snake Eyes Asian in the movie is part of this ridiculous "woke" trend that says white people can't be martial artists anymore because it's "cultural appropriation," so I guess this means Scott Adkins is a racist.
@44excalibur2 жыл бұрын
@@zomgNOOO If you want to make a great Snake Eyes movie you have to follow the storyline from the comics and exclude everything from the cartoons because the two are not compatible. I know Snake Eyes' story from the comics better than anyone, and making Snake Eyes Asian instead of a white American character who is an Army Special Forces operative who loses his parents and twin sister in a car accident, and then leaves the USA behind to join his Army buddy, Tommy Arashikage, in Tommy's family's ninja clan, only to lose everything again when his master is killed and Snake Eyes returns to America and lives a reclusive life in the mountains with his pet wolf, Timber, until he's recruited into G.I. Joe and falls in love with Scarlett, robs the story of all of its depth, heart, and substance. Also, Snake Eyes was inspired by a real life individual, a man named Robert Light of the US Army 1st Airborne Division, whom G.I. Joe creator Larry Hama knew when he served in the Vietnam War.

@@44excalibur Actually, Kamakura became the new snake-eyes as they didn't want Cobra to find out that the original snake-eyes had died. Hama disagreed with the studio about that decision, but Hasbro overruled him.
@44excalibur Жыл бұрын
@@TheShadowwarrior80 They never should have killed off Snake Eyes to begin with. He's the most popular G.I. Joe character and they kill him off? WTF is that? I'd have preferred they just let Snake Eyes and Scarlett remain retired and living happily ever after.
