I was playing a random list of handpan videos and had it in the background while I was working. I couldn't see the screen and so I didn't know who was playing, what scale, or anything... This one jumped out at me and I had to stop and take a look. Incredible playing and a beautiful scale that resonates with me! Inspiring! Thank you for sharing. :-)

@@JeanMatthieuHandpan then can it get rust problems ?
@JeanMatthieuHandpan5 жыл бұрын
@@mostaphobia yes theoretically it is more rust prone than nitrided handpans. That said I have had rust problem even on some nitrided handpan... It really depends on how heavy is the nitriding... but nitriding can affect the sound also...so it is a matter of choice... I go for the quality of sound first... I take care of my instruments and never had any rust problem with them as long as I keep an eye... when surface become very "dry" then I apply a thin layer of ballistol or phoenix oil or pure sound wax (depending on my instruments). Also since I don't play outside often they are not too exposed to humidity :)
@mostaphobia5 жыл бұрын
@@JeanMatthieuHandpan thanks for explaining :) can I ask how you decide which pan gets what treatment (which oil or wax). What do you think about Froglube? And one last thing, do you think a HP pan would sound better than a stainless steel? Thanks for taking your time :)
@JeanMatthieuHandpan5 жыл бұрын
@@mostaphobia Hello again, it is a mix of a personnal feeling and maker's advice (I would first and foremost ask the maker of my instrument what he/she recommends and start from that). I used to use froglube in the beginning... but after I started trying out alternatives such as the ones mentionned above, I never went back to it.. althought the smell was pleasant, it had got a gooey / sugary feeling that made me think it would muffle the sound somewhat... and it absolutely had no better result than the other one in terms of rust prevention/oxydation... at least for me... All the best!

I want to ask a question after your music is exported.Have you done any post processing?Like using software to amplify its sound?
@JeanMatthieuHandpan5 жыл бұрын
Hello! It depends, usually I use raw audio recorded on my Zoom H4N Pro (check all my songs posted before this one). For this track I did a little bit of post processing with software Ableton Live : I added some slight reverb in specific places in the song. And I did a little bit of EQ but not much. I did not really increase the volume in post. Also check the description in my video, I usually specify when the audio is raw, no effects, no eq... Cheers
@charles.66915 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer. Have you ever used software in the beta 57a microphone video?

Stainless or nitrated?
@JeanMatthieuHandpan4 ай бұрын
Hello! This is neither stainless nor nitrided. This is a unique material called HP (HardPan) which is a type of raw high-carbon steel. HP type instruments were invented by Roman and Anton from OMana instruments and they are the only ones who produced such instruments. You can read a bit about it here : omana-handpan.com/?page_id=3793&lang=en Original HP material gives an amazing sound to the handpans, a sort of perfect balance between nitrided and stainless.

Lovely composition... im really curious to try that georgeous Omana! ;) Very interesting scale.... edit: Whats the time signature on this? I tried to follow but...its not always the same.. a bit free played? :) Either way...lovely!
@xkliber7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's best when it's free, just letting the feelings flow and go. ;)
@Mandakinimusic7 жыл бұрын
Totally agreed, if you play alone. But if its to be played with other musicians, then not. :) If I try to imagine playing along with some percussions on this track (for example)... It would be a really hard job memorizing all the changes. :D
@xkliber7 жыл бұрын
Mandakini totally agree, of course with other musicians it could be hard! Ha ha. 😅 But when alone, you can also play or even improv and keep a rhythm, even if you change it to "tell another story" for a minute or two, and then come back to it. Ask Metallica. They do that very well. 🤘🏼👌🏼🎶😊
@Mandakinimusic7 жыл бұрын
Of course changes are great and even necessary, otherwise it can easily get boring, and alone you have that freedom, cause no one has to follow you. ;) Just not all the time. Allow me an analogy: writing a letter in 5 different languages, or different accents. It can be messy!! You know what I mean? :D At least stay in one language/accent for some sentences/pages, for the sake of sanity. :D
@JeanMatthieuHandpan7 жыл бұрын
Note sure what time sig this is... The main groove you can find it between 4:18 and 4:31... then I take my own variations in other part of the song but for sure I probably add/remove beats here and there just because I am BAD at that :) :) Fortunately the purpose of this was solely to be played solo, so it makes sense to me that you can't follow knowing that I am all over the place hahaha. Thanks guys for your feedback!
