My husband loves this song. He always sings the chorus while I'm watching some true-crime story about a partner killing their significant other for life insurance, child custody, an affair, you name it. "Just hop on the bus, Gus, you don't need to discuss much." Beats a life-sentence in prison.

Got to see Paul Simon on the "Graceland" tour, a really different experience. Paul had a few special guests on the road with him, including Ladysmith Black Mombazo, a combination of The Temptations and Gregorian Chanting, with the Temps dancing style. He also had Hugh Masekela, a South African Trumpeter who was amazing. And Paul's show was top notch too.

Nice! This song was huge when I was a kid. The verses made little sense to me back then, but that chorus is super catchy and making a getaway is something even a kid could understand - "Slip out the back, Jack..."
@CuriousGeorge11118 ай бұрын
Great choice, and Paul Simon has dozens more just as good. His lyrical and songwriting genius, combined with his voice, playing, and playful wit have created many classic records. I think the central irony of this song is the woman claiming to be trying to help and free him, while she entraps him. "And then she kissed me, and I realized she probably was right. There must be 50 ways to leave your lover." Two more I think you might enjoy are Late In The Evening, and Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard, but you really can't go wrong, Many of his solo albums are collaborations with different musical styles and their premier artists: There Goes Rhymin Simon/New Orleans Jazz, One Trick Pony/a touring club band, Graceland/African Music, Rhythm Of The Saints/Latin music. Lots to explore. Thanks for having me along. 🙏

You keep discussing how even the instruments can paint the picture of a song along with the lyrics. But even your interpretation of songs, their lyrics, the beat, the background, and how a singer uses their voice, does it even more justice. Thank you.

Since you like Donovan and the Allman Brothers (and I would assume Jimi Hendrix) there is a song by the ABB where they jammed on First There Is A Mountain (Donovan) then Hendrix's Third Stone from the Sun. It's called Mountain Jam. They really turned it into a masterpiece. Here's Donovan's song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpSwfmhjr6d2e8U Here's Hendrix's song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKXWZGZojpKhr8k And here's the ABB masterpiece: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a16WfWSDe6d-kLs Mountain Jam is such a fun piece to play. I always took it to mean that once she slept with him, having gotten what she wanted, she was going to leave her lover, (him). And he then realizes it, and still sleeps with her.
