I really liked the new direction in theory. The issue is the execution. Vega was an absolute mess in SFV. It's crazy how they went out of their way to completely overhaul his moveset while somehow feeling like they never quite had a coherent vision for him. Still fucking baffled that they made the claw permanently breakable. How was that never changed by the end of the game's life? It was always the most requested change by the community. I can't even think of a justification for that decision. Despite that though, I personally feel that making him a command stance character made him more interesting than in previous games. For all his issues, he's still the most fun incarnation of the character for me. I'm hoping Capcom takes SFV Vega's direction but overhauls it to be more well thought out.

@@platinumconquest2365 Tbh I don't think Vega needs much to be good. They really just need to stop screwing him over with handicap mechanics (losing claw and mask). And maybe also give him his flip kick back and a cancelable non-claw poke (such as medium kick) for the sake of combo variety and to be able to combo in neutral. I really like the stance shift direction they went in SFV but it seems like they were too paranoid about balancing him. Standing medium kick wasn't even cancelable until the final patch. And when they finally gave it to him, he was just decent/mid-tier at best. Vega is and has always been a character very good at controlling neutral on the ground with his claw range but his overall damage output is below average and his lack of ways to escape pressure make the issue worse even without the handicap mechanics. Bison has similar issues with escaping pressure but he has overwhelming offense and high damage to make up for it on top of having solid neutral. Unfortunately Vega doesn't have those privileges but still has Bison's same weaknesses plus more.

I think the problem with Dee Jay was that he was a charge character in a game that hated charge characters. Almost all charge characters in sf4 were either ok or just really bad. Some of the worst characters besides Dan in this game were charge characters. Omega sf4 fixed this by having deejay be a motion character. This fixed almost most of his issues.

Just based on the title of the video, I was hoping my boy Fei Long might get mentioned, since we haven't seen him in quite some time. It seems like Capcom is either scared of putting rekkas into newer games, or there's some other reason Fei Long isn't being included. I would think maybe the Bruce Lee estate could be an issue, but I haven't heard of them having a problem with any of the previous iterations of Fei Long, so I'm not sure why he hasn't made an appearance since SFIV

There's no legal issue based on his appearance if that is what you were wondering about. The reason he hasn't been in SFV is likely just the same Dudley, Makoto, Viper weren't. Not everyone makes it into every game and SF in particular have a lot of potential picks so of course some characters are going to skip an entrie. Fei Long has only been absent since V, some characters have not returned since 3rd strike. All we can do is hope he returns for SF6. (personally still hoping for Makoto)

On Dan, I loved using him in Alpha 3 because you could use his L Air Dankyaku to switch up your jump arc and crossup your opponent and combo in to stuff. Very glad they buffed him after how bad he was in Alpha 2 lol

For Dee Jay in SF 4, you could cancel his super into U1 which was the only real reason you would combo into U1. You only used U1 for very few matchups like T Hawk, Blanka, and Honda Ultra 2 also had one of the most difficult ways to combo into it possible. you did EX Machine Gun Upper and then dash and did it. In SSF4, it was 8 consecutive just frames to hit until AE2012 when they cut 2 frames from his forward dash to make the combo realistic to do.

Btw, small tip for SF5; you can actually play the versions of characters present in old seasons by going to combo trials! They didn't want to potentially ruin trials with changes to frame data so if you select them you're effectively playing the character as they were when the trial was released

You missed one thing on the SF2 CE Bison in that his Psycho Crusher gives you a free side switch throw on block that's inescapable too if they're close to the corner. He literally goes right through you and can throw you from behind because he's insanely plus afterwards, I used to rinse that all the time.

Always wonder why the fighting game approach go balance is either ridiculously overtuned to punished mercilessly into impotency. I’ve heard its to shake up character selection to make each season feel more fresh but I really think a well balanced cast of likeable characters would do better and be better received. Abigail is absolutely reviled by everyone and he highlights this perfectly. He was revealed at EVO to great scorn, captured no one’s imagination, and was a competitive menace. Then when people started playing him and actually sticking to him, they turned him into gutter trash so of course he’ll get dropped, and we may never see him again. That’s not a problem, but thats resources down the drain, and a character and playstyle that probably will never return. Why do that when you can make an awesome memorable character that can be kept around for time to come?

Vega was dogwater in Vanilla SF4, but he slowly got better over the course of the updates, and by the end of it, he was solidly mid-tier. Vega was quite a bit worse in SF5 than he was in USF4. Capcom's been doing the claw man a bit too dirty since the switch to 3D.
