Matt Frost - a very good custom mouthpiece maker and/or modifier: www.frostcusto...
An Olds Mendez from '52 (such a great trumpet) or TWO Strads: a lightweight 43* AND a Stradivarius Sterling Silver Plus (43 bell configuration, hereafter referred to as SS+). The Mendez, for me at least, is a hard horn to beat - but these are two fine Strad. There aren't any losers, folks! :) As I expected, the Olds Mendez and the Bach 43* are similar in sound; not exactly the same - but close. The Bach SS+ is a heavier bell and it has a richer, darker, fuller sound. Played first with a Reeves 42B, pretty much a legit type mouthpiece; a pretty deep cup with a 24 drill size. Played next with Trent Austin's TA-TF, Trent's first Trumpet Flugel piece. Then I use another excellent trumpet-flugel piece, Reeves C2J. Lastly, I use a newer piece - Trent Austin's take on an old Al Cass 1-27 mouthpiece. Enjoy!
