We literally just did this last week to a 3 axle trailer ON ALL 6 WHEELS, plus doing 3 S cams & bearings. I'm 120 lbs and lifted a drum without the hub on it myself, but the trailer ones are lighter. I use vice grips on the springs, And push the wire spring in with my fingers. Instead of an impact and a special C-clamp to get those pins out, I use and Oxy/Ace torch on the knuckle then hit it with an air/jack hammer deal. Pop right out.

its not that bad, we had kingpins done on our semi and it was only like $1000. in a shop they have way more air tools and air hammers and they can pull that stuff apart in no time, a shop could probably do all this in a couple hours.

Always fill the hubs with oil before you install the outer bearing. Never beat the spider trying to get the anchor pins out it will bend. Heat it with a torch and use the press.

When you reinstall the tires....you place your 4 pound hammer along side the tire hammer head down and handle upwards alongside the rubber tire. It is your gauge to see if you have the tire tighten properly. You spin the tire as you tighten the spots that need to be brought back into their proper place.

That's how I was shown to install Dayton wheels back in 1985. It works but probably overtightens some of the wheel studs in the process.

Jesse you may know this already but when we finish a brake/seal job we fill rear-end back up then take the truck out and back one side up on a hill so oil will get to bearings right away. Just a thought!

Jesse, if you have time, you can freeze those bushings Overnight, and they will just slip right in. give them a couple of hours to warm up, and they'll be tight in the bore. Might save you some effort, and frustration. That's a lot of work regardless.

6:20 don’t hammer in the brake pivot pins they should slide in easily! Use a ball hone on a drill and ream the hole til they fit perfectly.They are supposed to move freely. We use an old hand truck to remove and install the hub and drum. Nice work with the trans jack.Most of the wheelbearings On 23K and larger axles are torqued to 250 foot pounds spin hub Then back off and re-torque to 75 to 90 ft lbs,lock it down there and go looser if you have to move it. 38:20,Grab the largest prybar you have and 815 or 18 inch adjustable wrench later pry bar between the bearing and seal and put the adjustable on the prybar and it comes right off every single time really easy no fighting no grinding.
