Good stuff and awesome camera angles! Watching this whole video makes my small part seem like .01% of the job lol. Unbelievable how many feet of welding this roof has. I went through two 11 lb spools and that was a tiny portion of it. And thanks for tagging me in the description by the way. Appreciate that.

This is such an outstanding project, it is wonderful to have your take on it Jesse. The content is worthy of any construction site, even if some of the equipment is not as shiny. I'm thinking that Andrew must have a lot of batteries for his drone, as it always seem to be hovering above the castle when the POV is in the right direction. I think Andrew made the point that it gives him an eye in the sky for when he is unsighted, although we can hear you giving instructions via the wee radios. Those are nasty looking working conditions, although come to think of it, I worked in similar conditions on my dad's farm when I was a lad. I didn't much enjoy it though.

For guys that don’t do this kind of work every day, you guys are pretty impressive. The structure and the metal cladding are all pretty tricky. Were any mistakes made? If you do ever have to get a job, working with a crane, for someone else, just make sure you don’t say, “spool in/out”. The correct term is, “cable up/down”. As long as everyone’s on the same page, it really doesn’t matter. Just bustin yer chops a little. Something else for that day when you gotta go work for ‘The Man’, try to remember correct shackle orientation. The pin of the shackle is always either in the hook, or pointed up towards the hook (whenever possible). Since everything was pretty much a custom rig every time, it really doesn’t matter that much but it’s always good to remember ‘best practices’. Very nice job guys! 👍 🤜🤛
@jmuller864 жыл бұрын
best practice methods are always welcome , you seem to know quite a bit about this kind of work, I have never worked with steel and cranes like this before, I am a builder but it was always with wood...this changes the game up a bit but I am always up for learning. As it turns out I kinda liked working with these materials, I think I will get more into concrete building too, might possibly change my plans and build my house out of concrete, I have symon forms to do the whole house in one pour. I got the pettibone, so setting steel wont be an issue.
@psidvicious4 жыл бұрын
@@jmuller86 Cool! I was a Sr. Structural Superintendent for 30yrs in S.Fla, before retirement about ~6yrs ago. Lots of concrete and steel. Symons forms are an old but great system. Hard to go wrong them. If you or Andrew need any help on your projects, I’d love to do whatever I can. I’ve subbed to both of your channels so I’ll keep track of what you guys are up to. Both of you make fantastic videos! 🤜🤛

Awesome stuff Jesse. So many great things about it. All of you working that steel is amazing. I appreciated your comments on the various things like your saw and the magnetic drill. I noticed before that the panels overlapped the valleys, and the ridge caps overlapped the panels. Until this video, I didn't realize that the horizontal joints where shingled with a 2" overhang. I must not have paid close enough attention, but I didn't notice the tabs welded in before, and I thought they were just butted together like the vertical seams. And then you were helpful enough to put in the text graphic explaining exactly what you did. I would agree with you that Andrew should paint that roof with a paint with having high reflectivity. There are several elastometric paint coatings specially formulated for metal roofs that have that reflectivity. The closed cell spray foam will do a great job stopping convective and conductive heat gain, but not so much with the radiant.

it wasn't scary at all really, only scary thing was the wind once in a while, but I am also used to working on roofs, a fall from one story can be just as bad as 4 ....but from 2 to 4 stories there really is no difference, either way you are dead. I have never done work 4 stories up but it wasnt any different than 2 or 3

1:18:26 Question 1,000 about lightning. Will lightning make the welds stronger, the steel stronger and whole structure stronger? You know, kind of like how a Japanese sword is fired like a 1,000 times?
@jmuller864 жыл бұрын
it might, but I think the miles of mig wire used on this would create almost zero resistance without even having the steel there
@RedBoneCoonHound474 жыл бұрын
It's pretty much a Faraday Cage. The high voltage charge stays on the outside of the metal structure and then finds the easiest way to earth (ground). It never penetrates the interior of the metal or the welds. You can place your hand on the interior of the metal plate, have lightning hit the exterior and you would never feel anything. The sound may scare the crap out of you, but you'd be extremely safe. The US Navy has conducted numerous tests and found that metal ships at sea during a lightning storm are very safe as long as you are inside.
