It is impossible to miss the dramatic balance of the same colors in the sunset and the smoke from the tug. The end of the day, and the beginning of steam ships. And yet, something about the beautiful spirit of the ghostly Temeraire lingers in the cool gray of the sun and steals our hearts. Perhaps Turner, too, felt old and about to be cast away, but still full of past glory and the indomitable spirit of England. We age, we are broken up, but our heroic deeds do not die. Keep fighting, Temeraire!

Outside of the UK Turner and his paintings are insignificant and mostly unknown.
