Is there a test done on multicore SWA cables to see the effect of the electromagnetic forces on the SWA during short circuit? Is the SWA strong enough to hold the individual conductors within the multicore cable? I am looking forward to see a video of that test.

Our test cable is marine /offshore grade SWA cable, yes.it's multi core. our max current is 230KA@cleat install space 30cm. For more details,please email us : Justinjin@jnt-group.com Thank you!!

The test on this video appears to be on single core cables in trefoil formation. Can you please upload a test for multicore SWA cable showing the test parameters. Thanks.

Why the cables move during the short circuit?
@BenjaminEsposti

Good question! It's because of the very strong magnetic fields, which are caused by the high current. It's crazy how violently they move, even though these are thick cables!

It's called electrodynamic forces proportional to square of current. It could reach 400x normal values during short circuit period. This type of force is more critical inside switchgears, transformers and other geometrically complicated power equipment structures.

Until recently, the formal definition of the ampere referred to the mechanical force between two parallel wires carrying a specific current. When the currents are in the same direction, the wires attract. When they're in opposite directions, they repel. This is a 3-phase cable, so all three conductors repel each other.

Ampere force the short circuit creates a huge magnetic field which the opposite phases of each conductor oppose

You can see the same effect in smaller lower power situations. For example, if you view the wire inside a transparent glass fuse whilst you power on whatever device it is protecting you will see it twitch a little at the moment you apply power. You can see this effect on - for example - switched mode power supplies, but anything that has a large inrush current at power on also causes it to happen.
