I am honestly just stunned. When the video started with the girl saying she doesn't believe it's her job to help out with the chores, I was sure that when Jo sent out the little kid, she was going to have some harsh words with her about that. Something I would have cheered for. But instead she took the time to get to the root of the problem and address what was really going on, and start to fix the relationship between the mother and daughter instead of just saying, "You should do your chores because your mother told you to". Because that probably wouldn't have fixed things. Now maybe she'll do them out of respect and love for her mother, not just because she's supposed to. I just have never ending respect for Jo, I really do.

Well if a kid hasn’t got a good relationship with their parent , there not going to want to help out because they don’t feel that the parent has the right to expect that , which is an easily understood thing . Parents just need to care more about their older kids , and realise that while they’re not little anymore they’re still not adults . Not so long ago when kids grew up they didn’t grow up overnight , and theyd try to stay a child for as long as possible . Now it’s like , as soon as they turn 11 or so they get told to grow up and stop behaving like a child . And well as soon as your 13 hope of more childhood is almost nil , all attention goes to the exams and being an adult and getting ready to get a job in a few years . It’s horrible .

Veronique Q and it's for the same reason this girl said. Moms always on the phone or watching tv or talking about what she wants to talk about, not listening to what the daughter wants to talk about, and ignoring the daughter when she is talking. My mom is exactly like that and I stopped even bothering to try and talk to her when I was about the same age as this girl. She either wants to talk to me about something that I don't care about, or complain about my grandmother, or want me to do something around the house or she wants money. And I listen to her, but she ignores me when I'm talking. It's annoying and frustrating.
@emyemyemyyyy
@emyemyemyyyy 6 жыл бұрын
They do, usually. It’s just a very odd age and an age where being independent is paramount, so it feels very foreign to attempt to start the conversation. It’s difficult on both ends, you’re becoming an adult and your parents and you are trying to handle that and change with it. For me, I had a hard time dealing with it and talking to my parents about it, but now that I’m an adult it all makes a lot more sense and is much more comfortable. You start seeing your parents as whole people, not just mom and dad.

I no longer have my parents alive but I've lived with my grandparents 99.9% of my life, they basically raised me so they are kinda like my parents. The thing is, I've rarely had any sincere conversations with them especially about natural things like getting period or anything like that, there are a lot of taboo topics we don't discuss and even though I am 23 now we still don't sit down and talk about anything really because they still think that I am younger so therefor I shouldn't have an opinion on anything, I am dumb and they are always right and I am always wrong because they are older, there is such a huge generation gap between us that we will never find a common language and we will never be able to sit down and talk about anything sadly. Literally the only things we do talk about: I come to her with a problem I want to discuss and my grandma either completely ignores me, either starts yelling either starts speaking over me, either she goes on a rant about how messy my room is (it isn't, she just hates the fact that I have books on my dresser in my room and that I have pictures on my wall because I like drawing because it's calming but I am too old for drawing and being an artist is not a real job anyways) either she rambles about how I never help her out around the house and how I should do more, the thing is: I'd love to help out more but I am not allowed to cook because my grandpa is a picky eater so she just wants me to sit and watch her cook so I can "learn" (I know how to cook btw I am just not allowed to), either she asks me to go help her with something and I come around and she is like: "please wait" and then I wait for an hour or so before she makes her mind on what I should do so I get bored of standing around staring at the wall and I leave and I then don't want to help out, or I work like crazy busting my butt helping her out only to be told that "oh other kids do more, you should do more and I work around house every day so it's not a big deal" when a simple thank you would mean a ton and would actually motivate me more instead of me helping her only to be told that it's not good enough, not enough and that it's not a big deal over and over. My mom would always say thank you for helping me out, sing when we worked and would compliment me a lot even if I just vaccumed a few rooms, she would be happy that I helped and thankful and would praise me and those things actually made me want to come around and ask her if she needs help and I'd be happy to help her out no matter what it was she needed help with.

Before my mom died she didn't like hugging either, we never really said I love you to each other or hugged each other (she had some huge alcoholism issues but when she was sober and clean she was the best mom ever) but we did show love to each other by giving each other plush toys or random small gifts or just laying on sofa and talking about something completely random and watching tv together, it was thanks to her that I started collecting plush toys among a few other things :)

Every person has a ''love language'', this is a well researched thing. Some people express and perceive love through words, some through touch, some through gifts, there are a couple of other ones, I've forgotten. Some have a couple of those. And it's very subconscious. To me, telling someone ''I love you'' every day makes the words lose meaning. Even if I still do love that person, saying it suddenly stops meaning anything. But with touch I express my love completely. Just touching someone's hand t me can mean the world. Someone touching mine can mean that too. Meanwhile someone saying the words to me just doesn't do anything, doesn't make me feel loved. It's great when people's love languages match, then people understand each other. But if they don't match, people often think the other person't doesn't love them simply because they don't perceive their love language as love language.

I had a similar situation but my mum had to over compensate and underlying there was always a disconnect between us and I’m seeing it significantly in my aunt and cousin. My aunt means well but she’s just treating her more property than a daughter because that all she was given when she was younger, instructions and restrictions and is treated unfairly in comparison to her brothers. The difference between me and my mum is my environment, we live in a council estate - you guys call them projects I think - next to the city centre in Glasgow so it forced my mum to loosen up like everyone else. My cousins live in the countryside in the middle of nowhere so unless they’re are at high school or in a field they’re trapped in the house.

I love Jo's way of connecting the parents and the children. She goes to the root of the problem, not many try to do that. A child is never a 'brat' because it just is, there is always a reasoning behind it. Many parents sadly don't understand that you have to question yourself 'why is my child behaving that way? What can I do so it doesn't feel the need to hurt others?'

The last time my mom told me she loved me was like maybe a few years ago when I was sick. Sometimes some people show their love in other ways. Last time we hugged was so long I don't rememeber h ow many years. But we do other things for eachother to show love. It has always been that way with her, and sometimes parents show it in other ways than words. But it is better to say it. I disnt grow up saying I love you to anyone, but I have a 7 year old and I tell him I love him at least 3 times a day since he was born. Different people show love in odd ways. It's just understanding them. That mother loves her daughter very much and the daughter does too they just got lost from eachother. I really like this clip, it's very sweet. I love Super Nanny.

The mom seems to have a lot of excuses and it seems she's back pedaling and trying to blame her daughter for her mistakes as a parent. Her daughter shouldn't have to tell her to put her phone down and pay attention to her when she's talking. Glad jo addresses this problem head on. Mom needs to grow up and act like a mom.

@aprilsmith8605 5 жыл бұрын
That is not the case here at all. I know my mistakes as a parent and have owned them, apologized and doing better. This was an edited reality tv show made to look a certain way. They show my phone in my hand while I was actually signing papers to do the show and communicating with the producers of the show etc, I didn't think they would air that. When the cameras were in my house I did not use my phone for personal reasons except to plan my sons 2nd birthday party. I didn't use it excessively and if you must know I hid in my garage where there weren't any cameras when I did use my phone. Did you ever see my daughter with her phone in her hand? Don't you find that odd that you never see a teenager on her phone, she definitely was, it just wasn't aired or shown. My daughter was referring to a situation where I was using my phone for business reasons, I worked from home and in mid email she ran downstairs and started talking to me, I nicely asked if she would just give me a few mins to carry out my thoughts so I could get the work email done,she got mad and stormed off. She then mentioned that to Jo. I'm a very good mom. I had a lot on my plate at the time. We were living in a new state with no family or friends, husband away from home working long hours, I was handling my dead dad and nanny's estate, breastfeeding, raising an almost 2 year old, 6 year old and almost 17 year old amongst other things. I was doing the best I could. No need for you to be so judgmental and make a comment about me needing to grow up and act like a mom when you don't know me or the whole story. My daughter at the time was rebellious like they often are at that age and she didn't want to follow rules. Bottom line.

Bleached White well the daughter would be over 18 when she was commenting, so I’m assuming April didn’t change one bit and her daughter left to go somewhere where she was wanted for more than babysitting. She’s just proving by making these excuses that she is not a good parent, if she was she wouldn’t have needed super nanny in the first place.

@@aprilsmith8605 What I saw was a beautiful mother and daughter who care about each other, working through the difficulties of life. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about everyone's comments...mine included. People are very quick to judge...when the reality is that if any one of us had a camera crew in our house for long enough, we would all have things that we aren't proud about. People who reach out for help should be commended. It is incredible to me that people sit behind a screen and judge. In fact it is likely those pointing fingers are more of a problem. With the exception of just a few, most of us love our children more than life and we are working every day on giving them the best possible life. Be kind, people.

I asked her nicely to hold so I could finish my thought and email and she stormed off and then told Jo. At almost 17 years old she should be able to respect tha, understand it and be patient. At the time she was very demanding and would want things instantly. I also don't believe in giving children those things at a young age but at her age its completely normal.

I had a very similar relationship with my mom when I was her age. Teenager relationships with parents are hard enough as it is let alone with the added stress of a bunch of little kids and possibly step family drama etc. It can cause a lot of resentment on both sides. What I realized is that my mom is a person like me and she may be older but shes still a kid inside trying to do her best like me. So I made it my mission to be kinder, open up conversation, be more communicative about how I feel, develop trust on both sides and show her that I'm on her side. This made a huge difference in our relationship that now I can say my mom is my best friend again. I trust her entirely and love her so much, I am so happy I have her in my life.

I had been telling the same things to my mom since I was a young teen. I'm in my mid twenties now, and it's never gotten better and I've honestly lost the will to fight for any relationship with her after I am out of this house. I only converse with her now out of obligation because if I don't, there is hell to pay for it, but even when I do open my mouth, it's still hell to pay because she assumes the worst in everything I say and it makes me feel like I'm worth nothing if I can't even be worth anything good in the eyes of my own parents. I tend to be still skeptical that this will change cause it didn't in my case. I had a counselor who tried to get the root of matters between my mom and me, she confronted my mom and my mom accepted what she said. But later, after we left the clinic, she shouted at me for talking bad about her in front of the counselor. I was 12. That was the last time i tried to fix things with my mom. Today I'm 38 and my mum's not in my life.

My mom never tells me she loves me. She tells my sisters but not me. Ever since she got a boyfriend all she does is care for him and not use. She never congratulates me for anything I do or awards I get. She’s always on her phone. About a month or two ago I had a mental breakdown because I felt so unloved. My dad would always say he loved me and give use hugs and stuff but since he died nothing has been the same. My grandparents are the only ones that show affection to me. I cry myself to sleep a lot because I feel so unloved by her. I wish things were different.

The best thing about Jo Frost is her neutral approach to issues as she always looks at both sides of the story and never takes sides with either the parent or the child, as that’s the best way to learn the whole issue. Obviously in a house it’s the parent who’s in charge, but at the same time that doesn’t mean that only one person is to blame for the way things have gone wrong. Jo is definitely creative and imaginative with her problem solving issues. She probably has people who help her sometimes, but generally she’s very good at uncovering the issues and coming up with resolutions.
