Filipinos and Latinos are not the same but we have similar histories due to colonization from Spain. To say this would be disrespectful to my ancestors! Please, lets focus on the facts. The filipino's Spanish last names come from European people who lived in Spain. Some Spaniards mixed with the Asian people who already lived in the Philippines. And many filipinos don't have Spaniard last names. I'm latina but i have filipino friends. This is not a hate comment.

Philippines was initially ruled by Spain throughMexico. Another thing is, the Galleon Trade for 200 years. Some Mexicans migrated to the Philippines, and possibly Filipinos did the same in Mexico. These are the main reasons why Mexicans and Filipinos are like fraternal twins out of all former Spanish colonies.

I had a foster brother from the Philipines. His name was Valentino. I don't remember his last name, but I bet it sounded Spanish like his first name. And he had the same beautiful curls you both have. He was a troubled teen, but I was too young to get all of that. My brother and I thought he was just a lot of fun to have around. He only stayed with us for 6 months, but often came back just to check in and say hi. Growing up was rough for him, but he had a good heart.

Well actually there is a Mexican blood to every Filipino and a Filipino Blood to a Mexican. The reason is there was a galleon trade from Manila to Acapulco by Spain. This galleon trade lasted for 200 years .some Mexicans went to Manila and never went back. The same with Filipinos. Those who arrive at Acapulco settled and live there. It was only forgotten when Mexico revolted from independence against Spain and Spain cut the trade for fear that the Mexicans will help the Filipinos for independence. Thats the reason why we look alike

here's actually a fun fact about mexico and philippines. did you know that mexico and philippines was suppose to be one country. General Vicente Guerrero , mexico's 2nd president had filipino troops volunteered to gain mexico's indepence against spain. his 2 second in command were both filipino and from the province of Ilocos Sur , La Union. Guerrero had plans to Unify Philippines and Mexico , and not surprisingly a lot of Filipinos were up for it seeing they are more closer to each other than their colonizer Spain. but a las it never come to fruition , after Philippines got their indepence they had to deal with british , france , germany and USA. it completely drained their capability to fight back and with mexico as well just lost a chunk of their land against USA their unification plan was scrapped. one could wonder though what if the two did unify , what could have been if USA didn't stepped in and interfere. oh andd another fun fact , there's a small county in the municipality of Pampanga called Mexico , it's suppose to be a gift for mexico after they helped philippines fight off the japanese in ww2. it's suppose to be a state controlled by mexico but mexico declined the offer.

@maosama369525 күн бұрын
@@bxvdc 330 years of galleon trade isn't a short lived thing. their governor general were always from mexico. their resistance fighters were all sponsored by mexico. distant won't be a factor , they were already doing it being officially unified is only formality at that point. spain granted mexico exclusive access to the philippines , they were the only out of all the colonies had ties with the philippines cause of you know cuba exist , it's a whole can of worms i won't go to detail with it.

It’s seldom that I have encountered a Filipino surname among my peers and classmates.
@divt244513 күн бұрын
@@bxvdc, Filipinos are a mixture of different races. We are diversified. We have mostly Spanish last names, then Chinese, and American. Sometimes us Filipinos will combine Spanish, Chinese, and American to form a surname. We also have native last names of indigenous people of the Philippines. The reason why most Filipinos have Spanish last names was because Spain had conquered and occupied the country for 300 plus years and converted most of them to Catholicism and were given Spanish last names.
@bxvdc13 күн бұрын
@@divt2445 thank u! Ok but when u talk about American, that's not a race. And i think you are talking about American-Filipinos who were born in the usa? You should keep american born separate from the real filipinos who were born in Philippines.
@divt244513 күн бұрын
@@bxvdc , you are overthinking. If you carefully read my comments, I was referring American last names. However, to answer your question, the five racial categories that are listed on the U.S. census today - American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and White - have been in place since 1997., Americans are the citizens and nationals of the United States. Racial and ethnicity categories somewhat overlap with each other.
