I'm American and have been to the Philippines several times and absolutely love it! The reason they are Latino, is they were under the rule of Spain and Portugal for over 400 years. They are also heavily devout Catholics, and family oriented.. if you get the chance, GO!

Great reaction and thanks for sharing. You need to watch all the Jo Koy specials. Phillipinos are Latinos, the Phillipines Islands were colonized by Spain for hundreds of years. When the Spanish lost the Spanish American war, the Phillipines became a US Territory and almost a bunch of new states. But the US gave the Phillipines their independence instead. Puerto Rico could be a state or independent if the PR would vote that way. I know I grew up in the PR near Mayaguez in the 60's. So the Phillipinos are Latinos. :)

Both cultures do share a ton of things in common. It is unfortunately because the Spanish and Portuguese colonized both regions. That is also why both cultures share many similar last names. They are from conquistadors.

The Philippines and Mexico have a trading route..... there's even a celebration in Mexico with a monument to commemorate this history. I'm Filipino(Ilokano) and one time I was cutting the grass in my front yard and my neighbor came over and started speaking to me in spanish....then apologized because he thought I was mexican.

@motivationontop6587 Yup, I get that a lot too. Especially Filipinos from the Visayas. That trade route was called THE MANILA GALLEON TRADE. I just learned that when the Mexicans and Filipinos were going vice versa from Manila to Acapulco, the languages and the cultures we're going vice versa too. That's why some of the words in Tagalog not only have some Spanish but also some vocabulary from the Aztecs.

As a rural white kid, our medicine cabinet was just Vicks, Mercurochrome and Robitussin. Maybe some Tylenol for headaches/fevers, but that was it until my late teenage years. Somehow four perfectly healthy kids survived on a farm with that.

Filipinos and Latinos are very similar because when Magellan tried to conquer the world he went to the Philippines and tried to take over the country with the Spanish expedition. He ended up getting his head cut off by a Filipino Warrior, Lapu-Lapu. Magellan and the Spanish expedition are the reason why many Filipinos are light skinned and our languages are very similar. In turn, the food and the culture are very similar. A lot of people call the Philippines and the Filipinos, the "Latinos of Asia".
