This song is the anthem for people that are comfortable with their own company.
@spaaggetii3 ай бұрын
I can completely understand. I sit in my room not wanting anyone to contact me, then they get upset and cut me off. I realised I was an alcoholic and wanted to drink alone. I did that. No friends, mental health issues, Anxiety issues etc. Being in that OWN SELF company will destroy you later on. You need connectedness (being part of a social network and actively engaging with people). Humans are social creatures by nature, you cannot change that even if you are introvert or extrovert etc. The song is a good one for a current dilemma, but not a long date dilemma. No one will be able to take months alone "By themselves" in real life.
@KW-ro5ow3 ай бұрын
@@spaaggetii sounds like you have had a tough time, hope you're feeling better today. Some people are social butterflies and need human contact it's true, but some people like me don't need or want that. It's ok to be happy with your own company for long periods of time and I am, but it's not for everyone. No one has been to my house since December and I couldn't be happier, it's my safe haven of peace and quiet. Being alone and being lonely are not the same as you know and it's essential to be happy and at peace with being alone for long periods of time and if you're not feeling that way something has to change. Really hope things get better for you.

Gotta thank my mum for introducing me to this amazing talent by constantly playing her albums throughout the 80’s (along with Talking Heads, Roxy Music, Men at Work and others). I saw Joan about a year ago on Good Morning Britain and Piers Morgan’s first question was, “you must have experienced a lot of racism growing up in Birmingham when you were young?” Awful question, but Joan is above things like skin colour and replied “no. I didn’t have any of that growing up.” Made me like her even more. Just one of life’s beautiful people.

This British songstress, whose varied and unique catalog now spans 5 decades and the spectrum from Folk, Jazz, R&B and Pop to Hard Rock and Funk and has influenced artists such as Melissa Etheridge and Tracy Chapman, should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame but unfortunately isn't. Primarily a Folk/Jazz/R&B/Soul artist, Joan Armatrading showed that she could also do Hard Rock/New Wave. While I wouldn't list this as one of her best songs, it just serves to make her all the more unique and therefore fascinating. She has truly carved-out a unique music career, and I love her for it!!

She is completely in 2000-2015 but in 1980. She is like the emo-rock-acid-pop of the 2000s. The hypster high reviving the 80s in the 2007-2012 era: the clothes, the sound, the video, the lyrics, the voice. I hear in this song everything from Blink-182 to MGMT, to Franz Ferdinand to Jessie Ware to Metronomy to Mika to Benjamin Clementine to Sum 41. I can also hear reggae, neo-pop, classic rock, acid 70s rock, country, dance, acid jazz...the 70s visionaries.
