Only saw Joan live once (back in the 80s) but the next day I went out and bought her live album. I already had some of her records but needed to hear her live again. 'Cool blue stole my heart' - OMG!!!

I had no doubt you’d love that one, gents. I think everyone at Jools’ show that night knew they’d witnessed something truly special. Hats off to the fantastic production team who completely supported the performance with great lighting, staging, and camera work, not to mention the sound, of course.

I saw Joan in concert (Toronto) - think it was around 1977. She made the audience feel like we were sitting in a living room with her while she played her heart out. We all fell in love with her!

I think that unpretentious and casual approach is one of her super weapons when it comes to performing. She’s there to perform the songs that she really loves. The audience picks up on the fact that it’s not about the trappings of the stage and show, but the songs and the delivery.

I love this song. This is my favourite of hers, So long it has ear wormed me. Someone thanks me and my mind sings 'you took me dancing.' Also...I owned an ovation in the early 80s. A friend bought it for me as new from a pawn shop in California. It was stolen from my flat in Sydney. I had a friend who had a 12 string Ovation that was also stolen. For a while I thought all the Ovations were stolen. The best unsaid thing about Ovations is that they are so easy to wear on your back in the soft case. They were just the thing for once upon a time motorcyclists like me.

It's amazing to see an artist treat a song with the same reverence as when it was first released. 1977 this was released. - to put it into some deeper context, this song was released only as FM radio was really emerging. With a very quiet opening and silent pauses it's everything a song for radio was not supposed to be. When it came on the radio, people would stop and listen. Kate Bush emerged the followling year, Judie Tzuke the year after that - rare singer songwriters who weren't mired in the filth that was disco. Punk had arrived, but apart from John Peel, no-one was playing it. Joan and Kate were both deemed acceptable in the punk culture, they were recognized for their genius, they weren't played at gatherings, but everyone had a copy of their albums, especially musicians.

One of the real strengths of this channel is your willingness to dedicate time to artists who may not garner the most views, but are important to listen to and appreciate nevertheless, and especially doing so over multiple days. Leonard Cohen week is another example of this. So thanks to George and Alex for doing these weeks!

I don’t think there’s a better praise for an artist than when we either aren’t interested or even dislike them but we have to give them props for some of their work. I’ve never like Robbie Williams, but the stuff he used to put out was time and again well crafted pop. Not in my wheelhouse at all but it was far more listenable than other pop stars were turning out.

I know some really obscure 80s acts yall might be into. I mean REALLY obscure lol. I only know of them because I am active in some niche' music circles. First off, I would recommend The Asylum Kids. Which, thankfully are now all on KZbin. They were a South African post punk band in the early 80s notorious for standing up against the oppressive apartheid era laws. (I read some concerts even had to have them snuck out the back window as their performance was attacked by tear gas!). They have a really raw sound. Check out Schoolboy, Girl Gone Solo, or Jah Makeup by them. There's also some songs I found from a channel called 80zforever that uploads obscure unknown songs in compilations such as "The Girls In Room 429" by Mal Cochran, which, I am amazed wasn't a hit. It's pure late 70s power pop fun. It even has a full orchestra! (P.s: make sure you spell the name and artist of this one exactly right otherwise you will not find it. It's that obscure lol). Lastly I would suggest one called "C'mon Annie" by a mysterious band named Morningstar. They released one lp in 1985 and that's all we know about them. I uploaded the song to KZbin myself after i requested someone send it to me on Discogs as it was not on KZbin (outside of an 80zforever compilation.) I also have some local songs from my area that I uploaded to my channel after I was able to track down the names of them and get my hands on some copies. So yeah, if you ever wanna check out some really rare and obscure stuff just for fun lemme know lol

Also seeing as you have reacted to Aussie bands. i suggest Split Enz from the neighboring New Zealand. Amazing band all around. It was Neil and his brother Tim Finn's band before Neil went on to form Crowded House (the ones that sing stuff like "Don't Dream It's Over"). But for Split Enz, I HIGHLY recommend you check out "Poor Boy", "One Step Ahead", "Late Last Night" "My Mistake", "Six Months In a Leaky Boat", and "I Got You" (the last one being their most famous one so you may have heard it.) Split Enz got praise from The Beatles and Neil Finn now sings for Fleetwood Mac! Just a very talented band. One of the best!
