Alfred was her one true love. My heart broke for her they were only married a few short years. I'm in the middle of reading every book about Joan Crawford and watching all of her movies. Such a great actress! They don't make them like this any more.

@Kimberley_Black_White_TV That's right Kimberley, they don't make them like joan, or her husband and the young starlet and the interviewer any more, what i noticed was at the 9:02 mark the interviewer interrupted the conversation momentarily, and apologised in real time for doing that, in 2024 when that happens in our modern times the interviewer all too often (but not always) not only interrupts but actually runs railroad all over the conversation seeking to demoralise the guest. also Joan appeared quite often on the Lux radio theatre hosted by Cecil B. DeMille, its on the net if you look. The best one is the Lux Radio Theatre Digitally Restored Collection

@@Meepsmusic63 Thank you for that! I look it up!! I never tire of it and get so happy when I find something I've not seen before on Ms. Crawford. And you are correct in your observations of the video. I loved especially how lovingly Joan looked at her husband and how gracious she was with the young actress. Heather Sears was her name. I looked her up and quite sadly she passed away in her early 50s from cancer.

I am a huge Joan Crawford fan and have seen all her films save for a very few. 1 is “Rain” which I had the pleasure of viewing recently and WOW 🔥….I am so disappointed that Joan was embarrassed by that film. What a performance. She embodied Sadie Thompson

Joan always comes across as considerate and self-effacing. Two of her children and her grandchildren adored her. I’ve come to believe Mommy Dearest was claptrap. Christina made a career out of bashing her mother. Crawford’s body of work will last.

I like how Joan gets the big bouquet and the actress for hire is left with the scrawny little bunch hehe. Joan knows how to project glamore like nobody else, perfectly poised, her words sounding like a script, and she's got that adoring gaze down pat. The epitome of the queen of the cinema.

I love Joan. But that young actress towards the end seemed terrified. The intertwining of hands, what was that? But I think Joan was nerve-wracked too, her first TV interview. Alfred Steele seemed like good solid guy, a shame he passed so soon, Joan really depended on him. She was tired of fending for herself for so long in Hollywood.

I used to think the cringingly embarrassing pauses in this infamous interview were all Crawford's doing, but it's the interviewer who is killing it with those turgid questions. Was he only told five minutes before broadcast that he was hosting it? "Tell me about glamour"... "What do you have to do in the film?" It's like watching a man hurtling to the ground, and only very slowly thinking about opening his parachute.

Rather amazing to see Joan’s very first television interview which would have been live. She was naturally nervous. I wonder if she agreed to it because it wouldn’t be seen in the USA? A shame they didn’t get to Derek Bond who had been a great hope for British cinema in the 1940s, started by starring in Nicholas Nickleby but his career didn’t really take off.
