The Thin Man is one of my favourite films!! Myrna Loy and William Powell had such great chemistry - I used to think they were married in real life!! Loy makes reference to the 1925 picture "Pretty Ladies", which she and Joan Crawford both starred in. That film also starred ZaSu Pitts, Norma Shearer and Carole Lombard.

It’s the writing that was great. Now they can’t seem to put 2 sentences together without cursing and there’s usually no storyline just sex, gunplay, stunts and fistfights.

1) Mother/daughter conflicts are far, far from uncommon. 2) Joan was not around to defend herself from Christina's uncalled for and vicious attacks!

“I can’t even discuss the book that Joan Crawford’s daughter wrote; it makes me ill to think of it. Joan and I were friends for fifty years and the person I knew wasn’t like that. Why don’t people consider the source? I worked with Christina and saw how that mind operates. Of course I knew about the problems Joan was having with her two intransigent older children. They were unruly and obstinate and she was trying to make a lady and gentleman of them. But she was being criticized for it. To anyone who knew Joan, those melodramatic excesses described by Christina are incredible, yet seemingly harmless gossip that piqued people’s interests was repeated and exaggerated over the years until, as usual in Hollywood, it gained commercial credibility. We didn’t have any problems in “Barefoot In The Park” until we had to change some of the company and Christina Crawford appeared. Christina Crawford arrived with [Harvey, later to be her husband] to take over the role of my daughter. The idea of Joan’s daughter playing the role delighted me, until I discovered how recalcitrant this child was. I’ve never known anybody like her - ever. Her stubbornness was really unbelievable. She would not do a single thing that anyone told her to do. You’d go out there on the stage and you couldn’t find her. One thing an actor needs to know is exactly where people are on the stage; Christina completely disregarded her blocking, throwing the rest of us off. They fired Christina, for which, of course, she always blamed me. I did everything to help her and make it work. I gave her every opportunity. She had three directors. But this was a young woman with an incredible attitude. I’ve never seen anything like her determination to be something that she wasn’t. She wanted to be Joan Crawford. I think that’s the basis of the book she wrote afterward and everything else. I saw what her mind created, the fantasy world she lived in.” - condensed excerpts from Myrna Loy in her autobiography “Being and Becoming” (1987)

Love Love Love Miss Loy! What a truly classy lady and certainly Joan's most loyal BFF. Truly a friend for life and what an amazing journey they both shared in Hollywood! They were there for each other from the start. ICONIC LEGENDS both of them!!

But then Joan Crawford plays Christina’s part on Secret Storm??? That was way over the top! Also you can’t “make” someone a lady or gentleman, you teach them how to be such. And you also set an example. Joan Crawford had a promiscuous reputation. Hard to teach anyone how to be something you aren’t. And teaching styles are different and it is up to the parents to learn their children’s behavior and what teaching style will work best for them.

By this time, if Joan wanted to go to college and/or learn to paint, she could have. Let's face it- and there's nothing wrong with it- at this time she lived for little but posing for gushing fans and sending out autographed photos of herself. She was the real Norma Desmond, and I love that!

What a broad!! She was a feminist before anyone knew what that was! And what an actor. Her voice and facial features made her the legend she was. They don't make them like that anymore. Her background made her the woman she was.

One of my favorite Crawford movies. The chemistry between her and Garfield is electric. Wow! The music in the film is beautiful, as well. I must have seen this film half a dozen times and it still grabs me. Thank you for the tribute to a magical era.

The commentary on the Berserk blu-ray therefore wrongly asserts that Joan was not pleased when they hired Bette in the movie. Amazing how much false info there is.
