I remember that my grandfather, a great opera buff (as I am, as well), was so moved when Sutherland said in her interview, “I’m really a rather ordinary person who’s been given a quite wonderful voice.”

I can't help feeling the Lucia duet was a love note passed to the NYC audience during this time when Joan was banished from the Met. They let her know ,on this occasion,with their thunderous applause and shouts that the banishment was not of their doing. She would triumphantly return in '82
