Laura - I use a beading thread and when it comes to choice, it's personal preference really. However; my 'go to' beading threads are FireLine and WildFire and I usually use the 6lb weight ... When it comes to adding the clasp, there are no hard and fast rules - in a number of my other bracelet tutorials, I do take you through what I do - but that's not to say it's the best way and it's certainly not the only way! ;-) x

Hi, wondering if you have ideas for joining two ends of tubular herringbone to create a long loop, for a necklace. Long enough to go over your head where a clasp isn’t necessary. Thanks for ideas!
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
I've never done it Carrie but I imagine you'd need to put the 2 ends together ensuring that there was no twist in your rope along the way and then connect the two ends by passing your needle down a few beads in either the left or right column depending where your thread is eating from at the end and then take the thread straight across to the opposite column and pass the needle up through a few beads then across the join and down a few beads of the column on the other side and repeat until your connection point is secure. Hope that's some help...x
@Doxymeister
@Doxymeister 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoBarclayLoggie Hi, I"m hoping to build on Carrie's question....could you "build some bend" into the loop by using 15/0's on one side and 11/0's on the other, so that they form a basic hoop earring? Trying to imitate a simple silver bead necklace my Mom has that she lost the earrings that match. My hope is to end up with a about 1" to 1 1/2" hoop of tubular herringbone. Do you think this would work?

Hi thank you this really helped alot , love your colour scheme also .. Could you show how you attach the clasp ? Or if you could explain it that would be good .. thanks
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Abigail There are no rules for attaching your clasp. I would use one of the colours and with your thread exiting either the right or left hand column at one end of your work... pick up 5 seed beads and pass the needle through on end of your clasp. Then without picking up any beads, pass the needle back through the 2 beads closest to the clasp (the last 2 of the 5 you’ve just added). Then pick up 3 seed beads to balance out the 5 you first added and pass your needle down the opposite columns of beads. So if you started adding your clasp in the right you’re finishing it off in a column of beads opposite. Then to end of your thread, you can create a “maze” to lose your thread. Pass up, left, down, right, left, up, right and down ....and repeat...through your beads. Hope this helps? xx

How much thread? That's a tricky one to answer as everyone beads to a different length. I tend to work with what I can manage as it's very easy to add in thread to tubular herringbone. If you work with a piece of thread that is too long for you to handle, you're just going to get frustrated by tangling yourself up in knots! I tend to work with about 3m for a bracelet...x

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie Жыл бұрын
Hi - It shouldn't be twisting if you're just passing down through one bead and up through one...unless of course you're stepping up, in which case you'll be passing up through 2. To get the twist, you'll pass down through 2 each time, before passing up through 1....x

How do you add thread to this type of stitch?
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 жыл бұрын
If I get a chance I’ll do a separate demo to show you... but basically start your new thread a few rows down from the top and using the columns of beads, create a ‘maze’ with your thread holding tightly onto the tail... so bead through a few beads up... then across... then down... then across... then up/down etc until you feel your new thread is secure and the exit the last bead you added ready to continue. Hope that helps...xx

Hi…it would appear that summer of the time, dinner people have an issue with sound and I can’t work it out!🤷‍♀️ I will say that perhaps it’s due to this being one of my early videos and not having all the tech that I do now but who knows?! How do you rethread?
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 2 жыл бұрын
HI Trisha... Apologies for the delay in my reply to you...just been a little busy! ;-) Ending off and adding in new threads is a pleasure in herringbone stitch. Your thread will be exiting a left or right hand column of beads weave down a few beads on the opposite column , change direction and pass your needle up through a few. Change direction by taking the thread straight across to the other side and entering that bead - that way the thread gets gobbled up in the intersection! Just remember where you finished so that when you add in a new thread - the same way as ending off a thread - you know where you need to end up in order to continue...x
