When the calendar flipped over to 2021 - many of us looked at what we accomplished and what DIDN’T get done. One thing that’s been on my resolution list every year is to learn MORE standards that I don’t know, re-visit one’s that are forgotten, and to be able to play one’s that I’m familiar with in keys that don’t usually get called. So I wanted to invite you into this journey with me.

My online teacher, Frank Vignola, who has been playing professionally his entire life, calls this tune one of the hardest to solo over that he has ever played. We are doing it in my jazz quartet right now, and yesterday at our practice as I was trying to put anything together to sound half way decent, I very quickly realized I can't do anything with it right now. I'm so happy I found you and this video. Figuring out a voice leading map is something I have to do with every tune I learn now and I like that you use the upper extensions and not just chord tones. I have the first 8 bars of your sol together and will transcribe the rest as a learning tool. Thanks a lot for this!

I smile during those moments hoping that they'll be encouraging. I think we've all had moments where, while soloing, people give us looks that are less than helpful. I'm trying to buck that trend!

@@JasonKlobnakMusicInc Don't worry man it's not your fault XD. I was just failing to hit all the changes and when that smile came in at F#13 it just made my solo attempt feel even more awkward than it already was. Well I can hit some of the changes now, so hurrah for improvement I guess..
