Very nice lesson! Harmonically speaking, I recommend trying G13 or G9 rather than the G7#11. Using G7#11 is not incorrect, but the other voicing work nicely against the melody, and avoid stealing the thunder from the Gb7, which definitely wants the #11. Look to Desafinado for a II7 that wants the #11.

I've had chordal players (keys/guitar) do both depending on the situation. It's a personal preference when soloing, but since most real books use the 7(#11) that's what I have encountered the most 'out in the wild,' especially with younger players. Thanks for checking the video out!
