I read the original AVP comics when they came out back in the day, and they were great. So when I heard that the AVP movie was finally going to hit the big screen, boy was I excited. And boy was I let down after a coworker and I went and saw it. If you think about it, this could possibly be the biggest missed opportunity in Sci Fi Horror history.

I convinced my wife to see this over Princess Diaries 2 that weekend. Haven't regret it since. The fights between the Aliens and the Predators were fun. It was cool that Lance Hendriksen joined Bill Paxton in the "taken down by a Terminator, Alien, & Predator" club.

I stand on the hill AvP could be a franchise. With a little tweaks here and there (and going off a few novelizations of the comics) here is the franchise: Aliens vs Predator: Prey, Aliens vs Predator: Duel, Aliens: Berserker, Aliens vs Predator: War, Aliens vs Predator: Hunter's Planet. In that order. Yeah there some changes, since War and Hunter's Planet have different authors and are both written as sequels to Prey, but I will die on the hill of it all being there just waiting.

The xenomorph design in this film is probably my favourite. It’s the Resurrection one but painted black (instead of the original filthy brown dripping with slime), a little change but it makes it look way cleaner. The body is sleek and acrobatic, and they are vicious and agile af, especially the Grid. The practical effect for this film is simply amazing. The setting in an Aztec pyramid is really unique and the set design was great, Could this film have been better? Sure. But it’s entertaining anyway. It’s like watching fan fiction in live action. And there was real passion in making it. It also added a ton more to the Predator lore (rather than the Alien franchise) which Predators probably ripped off. Underrated.

The first was hands down the better of the two overall. On a completely nerdy point, I remember when the one pred was hit with a laser sight. Total white pants moment. Plus the nods to the noguchi story line. Though I've always wondered about "drowning" the queen. We know they can live without air or in vacuum but for how long? I don't think it's ever been spelled out.

Though there are choices I didn't agree with I appreciate this movie exists, I've a soft spot for it despite it's flaws, I'd never have thought that they pursued the concept of Alien vs Predator as a movie joining the likes of Frankenstein Meets the WolfMan, King Kong vs Godzilla, Freddy vs Jason ect. Cross overs back in the day for film were a rarity and the fight scenes was something the audience went wild when I saw it at the cinema. I'm exhausted, in disbelief, still grasping that this was 20 years ago and how times fleeting.

I liked the follow ups to the comic where she is a competent hunter but is undermined by the rest of the clan at every turn, especially Shorty, an unusually small Predator who bullies her. In the third story, she goes to a luxury hunting preserve planet with cloned dinosaurs and cybernetically controlled xenomorphs. Also like how the novelizations provided the phonetics of Predators and their internal dialogue explaining that they call xenomorphs Hard Meat, and humans Soft Meat.

The 2004 film is my favorite entry from both series. In my mind, Alien and Predator both ended with the AvP movies and Everything after has been a new continuity. AvP does so well adapting the ideas established by the comics while still leaving things open for the comics to be canon.

For Machiko ( or Hiroko ) Noguchi, the one actress I think would’ve been perfect for the role would be Ming Na Wen. Seriously whenever I read the original AVP comics, I can’t help but imagine hearing her voice. And when you’ve seen how many action roles she’s been in, which includes major franchises like Marvel and Star Wars ( as well as voicing Mulan). I think she can definitely bring to life one of the most amazing characters in the entire Predator franchise.

Pretty much any AvP fan has known about this script for years and it's a shame it wasn't the one they used for the movie. The biggest problem with the movie we did get was setting it on Earth in present day. It completely ruined the cannon timelines made it so they could never be so.

A long time ago (summer 2001) I had an idea for AVP. Mine was going to take place on Kona, Hawaii and have 3 Alien Queens in the caves on that island and 10 Predators were going to fight the Aliens on earth (while the rest of the Predators would've watched in orbit around the earth). Victoria Rowell would've played Lt. Lynn Kurosawa, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan 'Dutch' Schaeffer, Lance Henriksen as Charles Bishop Weyland and Bill Paxton as Joseph Hudson Lambert. Most fans enjoyed it very much and so did celebrities like Lance Henriksen, Michael Biehn, Bill Duke, (model) Alicia Marie, Matt Winston, Janette Goldstein, William Hope, Mark Rolston, Ricco Ross, Daniel Cash, Cynthia Scott, Christopher Henn, Carrie Henn, Ian Whyte, Tom Arnold, and Richard Chaves ALL read it and said they enjoyed it VERY much. I had ideas of either Renny Harlin or Bill Duke as a possible director. So ALL those people said they enjoyed it very much and liked how it still could've fit into the sequel. Feel bad I never go to show it to Bill Paxton though.

God I wish they would adapt the original AVP comic into a movie. To me it would make a great movie. Why they didn’t make this script into said film I have no idea. I get that to do it justice they would have to do a lot of cg and practical work just to make the world feel right let alone all the predators and aliens etc BUT it wasn’t impossible. Sure it’s not the exact same as the comic book which I still would’ve preferred that sort of adaptation. It sounds way better than what we got.

As a contained one-off story, I think it's fun. I don't think about it's relation to the canon of the two franchises at ALL... Paul Anderson Paul andersoned the movie. It was 1 of those ok to watch but never good enough to enjoy types. He finds an IP. Reads 2 minutes of a comic, plays 2 minutes of a game, or watches 2 minutes of a stream and becomes an expert in his own mind. This movie wasn't horrible but didn't come close to the potential. Resident evil movies weren't resident evil but some bastardization that was given the name and continued so he could sleep with and marry Mila. Monster hunter was a crime against an IP. He watched someone fight a rathalos for like 2 minutes and decided he could make it a movie.. starring his mostly out of work wife, who has more talent than to be saddled with his bs concepts..

The comics were really good, and I enjoyed the AvP movies. But I think they should have followed the comics, and had it in the future and on a colonized planet. Still, I'd be down for a AvP 3 and following the Queen from p1.
