I was at a convention last year he was supposed to attend, but he had to back out due to health reasons. Myself and many others were hopeful he could come back another time, but none of us were aware how serious it seemed to be and then he passed away shortly after. Rest in peace to a true legend. He always made a film that much better when he made an appearance, as the lead or a small or large supporting role.

I’ve always said Tony Todd elevated “Candyman” into the iconic horror film that it is today. At a time when most of our favorite slashers were becoming satirical jokes of themselves (Jason, Michael, Freddy) a mirror-killer with a hook hand and a pimp coat could’ve been just another straight-to-video comical horror movie… But Mr. Todd brought so much to this movie. He incorporated a Shakespearean acting quality with influences of Dracula, Phantom and Hannibal Lector to create a charming, charismatic, even sexy villain that was also terrifying. Plus, the fact that “Candyman” was made for a generation that grew up in the urban sprawl and urban legends of the 1980s/90s. “Candyman” is not set in a campground or a rich neighborhood. These are real places and people that many of us recognize. The kills reflected things that we read in the papers everyday. The killer has a face and speaks. No masks or full makeup. Also Virginia Madson was a great female lead. She was beautiful but she never uses her sexuality in the typical horror way. She purposefully cut her hair short and wore heavy clothes for the audience to focus on her academic motivation and intelligence (much like Jodi Foster in “Silence Of The Lambs”) Tony Todd will forever be a horror movie icon. Up there with Bela Legosi , Robert Englund and many others.

RIP. Tony Todd. It’s a shame he never quite got another iconic role. He’s good in some other films, but I feel like he had the talent for another big role, at least. I’ll also say the first Candyman is a masterpiece. The second wasn’t as bad as some say. Some good ideas that really lacked not having the same director. The third was awful. I tried & wanted to like it, but ugh. The newest sequel had good ideas. Some visuals & music were really interesting, but it was lacking in the end. Unfortunately.

Fun fact. I’m pretty sure candyman was the first horror film that gave me nightmares as a kid. Granted, I feel like my parents misjudged how appropriate this film was for my single digit age. 😂

@HisShadowX16 сағат бұрын
@@vampirascoffin870 Because people are tired of remakes, the difference is, this really isn’t a remake-it’s a sequel. And it’s sort of smart what they did. However, the average audience sees this as an insult to the legacy of the franchise. For example, there’s a video game called Final Fantasy VII. Now, for years, people had been begging for a remake, and 10 years ago, the creators said they would never remake Final Fantasy VII. Well, go figure, a couple of years later, Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced. However, true to their word, it was not a remake-it was an actual sequel. So, yeah, there are a lot of people who don’t like when things are remade, especially when something’s already a masterpiece. And to be quite honest with you, i almost didn’t see the movie because i was upset, but after I saw it, I sort of respect the Candyman (2021) movie. Because you don’t know until the end of the movie that it’s actually a sequel to the original, down to the main characters of the first movie.

Rest in peace to Tony Todd. The decision to give Candyman a slavery back story was a questionable one. Just because a character is blk doesn't mean they were slaves in America hundreds of years ago.
@mrhumble2937Күн бұрын
Why does it matter and if they were in America back then they had slaves in their family bloodline.
@DannyKnightblade45Күн бұрын
@mrhumble2937 Not necessarily. Not all blks were slaves. There were blk slave masters, there were blk slaves, and there were blks in free states who were free men and women.

@DannyKnightblade45 and there were white people that thought slavery was morally wrong. Point is its a minority.
@lutherheggs45117 сағат бұрын
Sooooo your worried about that, but OK with the white woman savior who saves the poor black people in the projects. You do know that YES because someone is black hundreds of years ago it was highly likely they were a slave....Protip; there weren't all that many free blacks back in the time of slavery and, it had nothing to do with him being a slave anyway. the same thing would have happened to ANY black man who had relations with a white woman back then
