I really enjoyed Rob's version of the first Halloween but the 2nd one was a huge mess. I hated how Dr Loomis does a 180 in his character, especially after being almost killed by Michael in the first one. I also thought the white horse storyline was complete rubbish. The kills were the only redeeming aspect about the 2nd one in my opinion.
@virgie47153 жыл бұрын
I used to hate the white horse aspect and believed it was only so Sheri had a role. I still believe it was only so Sheri had a role, but I think it could’ve worked had it been explained more. I think it was a hallucination symbolic of whatever plagued Michael’s mind and how Laurie had that same issue, it just kinda... slowly “opened” by her trauma and her time with him that first night. Idk I think he could’ve done something really interesting with that and add a deeper element.

No, Rob has said that Michael, mentally, is frozen at that age. He never grew up from being young Michael in his mind. The ghosts of the Mom and young Michael are a delusion that Michael and Laurie are both sharing with each other. That’s why Laurie is being held down by a hallucination.

As someone who loves the character of Loomis, I was initially really upset about his treatment in H2, as well. But you know what, it's actually really grown on me. All of the characters in H2 are characters doomed by fate, wrangled in by inescapable destiny. This actually gave Loomis an arc by having him attempt to distance himself from his fate, trying to prosper, live a wealthy and peaceful life. But in the end, he knows he can't do it, that it is somehow wrong, and he returns to what gives him purpose, dying alongside the monster he felt he helped to create, or put another way, the boy he failed to save. It's the only movie besides the original where Loomis is really explored as a character.

Eventhough I really like RZ H2, I never knew the Weinstein's were so miserable during production...and I was hoping to find that making of-documantary that now I know got lost because of the hectic and problematic shooting/ production. I know a large number of fans hated this raw and heavy sequel, but I always had a thing for H2 being what it ended up being..a Dr. Loomis who became an arrogant exploiter of Michael's story and massacre, but to be fair, Rob Zombie had the guts to go this daring, even to some account realistic aftermath of the characters, including Laurie spiraling down into insanity, and having Annie and Chief Bracket return to live troubled lives since the event of the already known 78/07 storyline. I think just like Halloween III, this movie will be seen as a decent sequel, when the years have passed...because it is a well made movie with some controversial and never attended before looks, actions and gore the 2018 movie used again but suddenly more accepted. Rob Zombie's version was the absolute worse. He reduced Michael's motivation to being from a dysfunctional family. He moved about like Leather-Face, as oppose to the ghostly sleepwalking type boogieman. I guess we could appreciate the visuals, like the mask and the poster. It had good parts, but on a whole it was crappy. It felt like it was geared specifically for a Rob Zombie audience. Rob Zombie's other movies were classics, but HALLOWEEN was Zombie out of his lane. HALLOWEEN was a project for someone who understands how to create an unseen, stalking mysterious dreadnought that moved in and out of the shadows. Zombie's films had killers who were real humans, but very, very twisted. And an element that was ignored in most of the sequals was Michael's eyes. Not seeing his eyes, but just darkness, added to his mystery.

This has interesting ideas, but Zombie ruined it by putting his perverse brutality. Too much over the top violence & vile language, like the sicko paramedic that wanted to do you know what with one of the victims's bodies. I do like the psychological exploration of the survivors. The scene where Brackett is telling Annie & Laurie about Lee Marvin was a great scene. Things like that I really liked. Unfortunately, the violence was boring & too over the top. We've seen Michael Myers kill people, but we hadn't seen a Halloween movie do some psychological exploration. The film is also very well made, & its use of 16mm really looked very good. It is better made than ANY of the sequels after 3. 4-6 are some of the most badly made abominations I've ever seen. Zombie's Halloween 2 isn't a good film, but it is better than any of the sequels that came before he got involved. The 2018 version utilized Zombie's idea for a psychological examination much better, as it wasn't filled with too much over the top gore & foul language.

@@jakepayne2985 Definitely agree with you about the PTSD. I remember at the start where she’s asking if she’s going to die in the hospital, as well as when she’s talking to her therapist about seeing someone dressed up as a monster, or something. Remember thinking that is spot on. That is how PTSD can manifest itself. But I think it unravels after that. Michael just walks in to scenes and kills people for the sake of it. Spending so much time on his psychology was also a mistake, I feel. The whole thing feels undercooked. I’d rather have had more time spent dealing with the trauma suffered by Laurie and Annie afterward. They’re the ones who mattered. (And Brad Douriff, who is the man!) Instead everyone feels like fodder. Just feels completely undercooked to me.
