One thing I rarely see mentioned about this film and it's popularity is with the marketing and timing. This film was released at the end of 1984. I was just a young kid but I still remember the anticipation of the real Halley's comet on the way to arrive in 1986. Talk of the real comet was in our science class and on television. So in 1985 Night of the Comet was big. Me and my brother watched it so many times. Then we got to see Halley's comet too, and thankfully we did not turn to dust.

Brilliant film, witty dialogue, great soundtrack. And if you want two sassy, tough and wonderful heroines, there isn't many better than Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney. Would love to have seen a sequel to this.

The writing was particularly good in this film. One of my favorite parts was when Kelli Maroney's character is recalling how one of her friends was flunking algebra and trying to keep her parents from finding out. The way she broke down realizing her friend was gone and how something that can be important at the time becomes trivial was brilliant. It's a shame she isn't better known.

We lived in a rural area and didn’t get a satellite dish until 1996 (6th grade). This movie was the first thing I watched. It aired on HBO. Didn’t know the name and thought of it often growing up. Discovered it again in 2015 when someone uploaded the whole film to KZbin. It was exactly as I remembered. Learning how cheap it was makes how powerfully memorable it was for me all the more impressive.

The only thing that happened to Night Of The Comet was a kismet cosmic convergence of masterpiece entertainment. Loved every second of it. "Daddy would have gotten us Uzis"..LMAO...one of the best unrehearsed ad-lib moment lines ever filmed.

"Night of the Comet" is one of my favorite films. It's a delightfully tongue-in-cheek take on the end-of-the-world scenario in which a global cataclysm kills most of the population except for a few scattered survivors and the usual zombie-like mutants. It's just a really fun movie. I thought Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney, as the two Valley Girl sisters, were absolutely adorable.

1984 to me is like the best year ever of my 49 years on this planet. I was 10 years old and it was like an amazing time to be alive. I absolutely love the '80s. And this movie was my favorite at the time right along with nightmare on elm Street the last Starfighter and other great fantastic movies two numerous to name. The '80s as a decade alone stand above and beyond any other time frame in the last hundred years if you ask me there's just something extremely special about the '80s. Nostalgia did not have to happen to me over this movie because I was already madly in love with it when it came out. Same for purple rain la Bamba dirty dancing yeah you get the picture. Don't forget the Lost boys karate kid fast times at ridgemont high there was just so many fantastic amazing movies in the '80s and 1984 was the top

You are about a year older than I am, so I remember what you are talking about as well as the age context. It's funny, growing up in the 80's, we had no idea how amazing this particular time period was, because it is all we knew. We didn't know how awesome it was until things started to go to shit in the early 90s or maybe later for some. I was 5 in 1980, I was 14 in 1989, these years I remember well and with much fondness. Every year had amazing movies and music, tv seasons were long (22ep) and it was of a far higher quality, morals were still taught, and kids were still disciplined at school and at home. I could go outside to play at 7:30am and come home, when I heard my mother yelling my name (that sound traveled like a fucking mile) for dinner. Summers were amazing. My God, if I die and can do it all again, that would be just fine by me.

I saw this movie at the theatre when it was released and have watched it since at least a dozen times. It's one of my all time favorites and is a fun, entertaining and memorable film. It is quintessential 80's but instead of detracting from its appeal it only heightens it. The two female leads were also great in it. Katherine Mary Stewart was fairly well known in the 80's but both actors should have had much bigger careers than they did. I love that this movie is finally available again. If you haven't seen it you should, it's a great popcorn movie.

Incidentally.. Catherine Mary Stewart was every schoolboy's dream in the early 1980's, not only for her looks, but also since "Reg" could have likely beat you at the arcade game Tempest. Both factors that probably help the movie stick into our brains, even as grown men 35+ years later. As for the movie itself, I think it was simply brilliant for it's time, especially the feeling of post-apocalyptic desolation it gave you. Everyone liked to explore an empty mall on a Tuesday too. ;) However, I always thought there could have been a bit more radiation mutants or zombies in the movie. The dudes at the mall were kinda just like mutant jokers with sunglasses on, which was a little dumb. Other than that, I'd still give everything else an 8/10.. well done.

Revisited this a couple of years back and enjoyed it much more than when I was younger. Catherine Mary Stewart & Kelli Maroney make this film. I could happily watch them all day (both beautiful, even now). Without them, Night of the Comet would not have the charm it has that elevates it slightly from all the other 80's movies that were similar. Showed this film to a mate and he fell in love with it.......or maybe fell in love with Catherine Mary Stewart. Don't blame him.

My family did not have the VHS tape, so I had to wait for it on the TV in 1990-1995. It was one of those movies which I would see 35 minutes after its start time, so I just watched the remaining movie until one day I learned it was playing at a certain time. When I finally saw the beginning, I felt complete. As of this day, this movie is being remade which I hope sees a theatrical release. What a classic !!!

During the pandemic and getting tired of the streaming services i got deep into 80s movies and discovered the strong community celebrating VHS and 80s culture. A lot of movies which got on the index in my country(Germany) finally got pulled of that index in recent years with new ratings(more reasonable ones) and i discovered so many more movies including Night of the Comet. This movie is truly a gem. Its bad-ass, entertaining and feministic without being "woke" or lecturing, just natural cool girls with fears, worries and balls of steel.

Everyone in the 80’s were terrified of what would happen when Hailey’s Comet was going to make its pass of the earth. Then of course, the future was scary as well. Lesson: When making a budget film the creativity and expertise must extend well past the writers, cast and director, to every member of the crew, including post production. You need exceptionally talented people to pull it off, and Night of The Comet is a prime example. It was never intended to be an epic film, but it's a damn good one, and I wish there were more like them.

I have always loved this film ever since I saw it shortly after it first came out. I have watched it more times over the years than I can begin to remember. I actually rewatched it a few weeks ago when I rediscovered it on Tubi; it totally stands the test of time. I was thrilled to see this channel’s glowing review, which reaffirmed my memories of this wonderful classic (in my opinion). I would definitely recommend this film to viewers, young and old, looking for a totally enjoyable film experience. And YES!, the music is awesome.

The cinematographer did a lot with a little. Those long, lingering shots of the city, like alleyways & dumpsters. Empty streets. The way it would linger on the red skyline for just a bit too long after the characters drove out of the scene. Very well done!

This has been on Pluto lately, and I have to admit that when rewatching I am shocked by the obvious low-budget, something more due to modern sensibilities than the film itself. What I do recall is the summer it was on Cinemax(summer of '85, every other movie on 'max was purple rain, lol. It was like "Commando...Purple Rain....Death Trap...Purple Rain...this movie...Purple Rain") where I saw it dozens of times (remember when you just watched what was on?)
