They aren't getting anything out of it and they got made fun of but since they are poor and uneducated they cant afford and don't know they could get a lawyer, p shitty move by the guys that made the movie. Also its weird hearing the music and the names which are clearly not Romanian lol.

Fact: the scenes of Kazakhstan were shot in a Romanian village called Glod, the villagers were hired as extras. However, they were so offended by their portrayal in the movie that they threatened to sue and kill Borat, played by Sacha Baron Cohen.

being 8 years old when this first came out and i watched it, i think the funniest thing looking back is my mom knew within seconds that his "home" village was actually in Romania. I also think this is part of the reason this movie and character is so irresistibly funny to me, reminds me of the whole side of my moms family

The funny thing is that his Kazakh greeting "jak się masz" is in Polish, when he is speaking Kazakh he is speaking Hebrew and there are other instances of him using different languages. No one will realize he uses like 3 different languages saying they are yet another language and no one in America will realize. He can say literally anything about his country and other similar thing and no viewer will realize which kind of proves the point of the movie.

Well, Borat is very funny, but totally politically correct, extremely leftist. He mocks patriarchy, racism antisemitism, homophobia etc. Moreover, Cohen always criticizes only the conservatives and the political right side. You don't understand the real sens of this movie. That story works on two levels.

There were awesome scenes in the second one, for example with the baby at the doctor but the clips with Republicans weren't funny they were pretty sad to watch.

@A J Thanks for your response. Regarding your point about China ruining American industry: you should research "comparative advantage". Economists agree that free trade with China would be beneficial for everybody. They outcompete American industry and provide cheaper and more efficiently made goods, meaning America can import these goods and adapt their own industries to other areas in which they will be relatively more efficient. Some people will lose jobs but this can easily be compensated by the large gains all consumers will experience from cheaper goods. Economists overwhelmingly disagree with Trump here.

TImes have changed. The whole of Kazakhstan was livid when this film was first shown. Every Kazakhs were complaining that this movie was giving Kazakstan a bad reputation. But now for the younger Kazakhs, they find this movie funny already.
